A gifted Armagh-born uilleann pipes and low whistle player, Lúnasa musician Cillian Vallely comes from the same talented musical family as his brother Niall Vallely, concertina player with the group Namos. Cillian has spent most of the recent past touring in the US, performing with bands that such as New York – based “whirligig, Paddy O’Brien’s “Chulrua’ and with Clare fiddler Seamus Connolly. He was featured as uilleann pipes soloist in the Broadway production of Riverdance.

An exceptional flute, whistle and bodhrán player, Kevin Crawford was born in Birmingham, England and is now living in Ennis, County Clare. In 1993 and 1998, Kevin joined, respectively, two of Ireland’s most celebrated instrumental bands, Moving Cloud and Lúnasa. With the former, he made two exceptional albums; 1995’s Moving Cloud, named best recording of the year by New York City’s Irish Echo newspaper, and 1998’s Foxglove. With Lúnasa, he made another superb release, 1999’s Otherworld, also singled out by the Irish Echo as that year’s most outstanding album; plus the Lúnasa recording The Merry Sisters of Fate. His involvement with each group has brought him the wider international recognition he richly deserves.

Lúnasa has become one of the most sought-after bands on the international music scene. The band’s inventive arrangements and bass driven grooves are steering Irish acoustic music into surprising new territory.
