question about Clarks

I have always played Oak brand whistles and generation. Last week I decided to try a clark classic. It is all silver with a piece of wood for the fipple. I have never played this brand before so I have put about 20 hours in the last week into it and I noticed the wood is starting to deform and the notes are starting to squeek. I tried to file the wood down but it only made matters worse. Anyone know if this is common for the wood in the clarks not to last as long as other whistles.

I have a Clarke C that I bought in 9th grade, and it still plays.

I’m 37 now, so that puts it back a ways.

I would guess your whistle had some problem in the wood in the block.

I like Clarke whistles, by the way. They can be lovely little things, and they have that feel of antiquity about them that I love, being probably the oldest tinwhistle still made.

Best,
