For those who don’t know it yet, I sent in an entry to the Albany NY Times Union’s “How We Met” contest, and Charlene and I were selected as finalists. Now it’s up to the public to vote. Anyone from anywhere in the world can send in a vote, so please go and vote for us! You can also leave comments on the blog, and I’d LOVE to see the comments come in from far and worldwide
We’re actually on the front page of the Times Union’s online newspaper today, 7/30. Check out www.timesunion.com and follow the links from the happy looking couple holding a bass recorder. You’ll be able to read our entry and see a brief video interview. The winner will be announced at the 8/20 concert of the Philadelphia Orchestra at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, which is their summer home.
If you don’t get to look at that today, we may be yesterday’s news by tomorrow and no longer on the front page. However, the voting goes on for a week and you can still vote for us at:
I will be happy to vote for you, and Charlene. That is a real neat story how you met, and it is great that you will always have music in common.
Hmmmmmm… however, could I get a waiver on the forwarding this to everyone I know. I don’t know that many people, and the last time I did not forward a forward request,
we were hit with a hurricane that tore off the roof. When things dried out the locust swam came upon us. Now we have this drought going on, with only enough rain drops to breed millions of mosquitoes. Then I inherited a diamond mine in Africa, a gold mine in South America, and won two lotteries from the UK that I don’t remember buying tickets for.
I did not want to go into a higher tax bracket so I forwarded the Diamond mine and one UK lottery to California to help them out. I forwarded the gold mine and the other UK lottery to the white house to pay for my health care in my old age. Now I am under investigation for international fraud. There are also some big fellows driving by my house in stretch limos without license plates. So you see why I am hesitant about forwarding messages. Paul you have always been there for me with suggestions on making whistles. So I will send in that vote.
I’m sure it does, but with additional connotations thanks to 1. The popular “Got Milk?” advertising campaign, and 2. The antics of a certain recently-past US president.
Paul, it’s fun for me to see the Saratoga news. I spent many an August there growing up, as my dad was a NY Racing official. I remember the big centennial celebration in 1963, the opening of SPAC in 1966, and Caffé Lena when there was still a Lena.
Hmmmmmm… I just cast my vote, and they took my email address. If I start receiving promotion emails from the ‘‘Times Union’’, should I forward it to you?
I didn’t get prompted for an email address, it just accepted my vote. I did almost get tripped up by that Bushman/Busman trap, though. Cheap ploy on someone’s part!
I made a comment, and it did ask for an email. I didn’t see any voting results, though. I think that that must be a copy error, as I don’t think that it would be fair to have a running tally of the voting results.
I also met my wife through a Yahoo personal ad. Getting married for the first time at 63 was somewhat of a shock for my family. I said that I wanted someone who likes classical music, who is beautiful and has money (I really didn’t say that), who votes democratic, and isn’t too religious. Send me that person, now. Search. Folks, I am only joking, but I do appreciate the power of the internet. My wife and I are very happy together. We never would have met without the internet.
