The tunes on the Lunasa movie are a set from their Merry Sisters of Fate cd, track 11: The Wedding Reel, Good Morning Nightcap, and the Malbay Shuffle. The Wedding Reel is apparently the wrong name, the tune actually being McLeod’s Farewell, written by Donald Shaw. You’ll find sheet music for it here: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/518.
On the Comas video, the second tune is Paddy Fahey’s jig, and the first reel is the Congress Reel. I recognize both the first and last tunes as well, but their names aren’t coming to me–it’s late and I’m off for some sleep.
Aidan Burke’s playing is brilliant, and Mr. Barou’s no slouch either.
The final jig, before the “Congress” is “The Reverend Brother’s”, or “The Monk’s” jig. The last reel has been recorded by Scottish guitarist Tony McManus, who calls it “Doherty’s”, after the Donegal fiddler John Docherty. he lists Paddy Glackin as his source for the tune.
The Session’s been denying me access all evening. I left it in a huff about three years ago but I have still been able to visit it occasionally. Is it just me?
