tune name request

Hiya,

I heard this one on a video somewhere some time ago and don’t know the name for it. I can’t play the second part, so here’s only the first one:

Thanks in advance!

Sorry I can’t help you, Gaybo, but nice tune, nicely played. I hope someone else can supply the lost chord.

The tune is The London Lasses. And nicely played, Gabriel.

Thanks everyone!

And here’s another one:

Can anyone identify the tunes?

Sure … but these were difficult to find.

Tune #1 - The Rising Sun / The Master’s Return
[http://www.ibiblio.org/fiddlers/RI_RJ.htm#RISING_SUN_[1](http://www.ibiblio.org/fiddlers/RI_RJ.htm#RISING_SUN_[1)]

Tune #2 - Seamus Meehan’s / Jimmy’s Return / Dunrobin Castle?

Tune #3 - Boys of Tulla

There’s a nice recording of Tune #1 on Cherish the Ladies, “Across the Waves”, Track 3. And Tune #3 is closely related to Humours of Tulla, but it’s a different tune.

Cheers …

John, the second one you called Jimmy’s Return I know as Dunrobin Castle.

I think you did mean to list it as you linked to Lunasa’s Se CD page at the Session.

X: 1
T: Dunrobin Castle
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
R: reel
K: Bmin

Oops. OK, whistlin’ kitty, it’s fixed.

The reason I omitted the title Dunrobin Castle is that the Fiddler’s Companion lists 2 other Scottish tunes by that name – one a strathspey, the other a reel – which are completely unrelated. And the correct tune here is given as Jimmy’s Return as far back as O’Neill’s. Sharon Shannon, The Bumblebees, and Deiseal refer to it as Jimmy’s Return. But the setting named Dunrobin Castle by the Tannahill Weavers is also this same tune, not one of the other Scottish ones.

I wondered if this might be another Lúnasa mis-naming, like Butlers of Glen Avenue. But it seems to be just a typical folk process naming mess.

Oh, and Seamus Meehan is apparently a piper and piano accordion player from Dublin.

BTW, now that you’ve blown my nom-de-plume, you shall suffer the wrath of MTGuru, or at least gentle teasing, at the next session. :smiling_imp:

aw, there’s so many Johns…

heck of a lot of Daves too

I’ve always known the 1st reel there as “The Master’s Return”, which is mentioned in the link provided by MTGuru. There are 2 other tunes - at least - called “The Rising Sun”. May reduce the confusion somewhat.

You guys are great, many thanks!

I figured you guys were giving me all false names anyway just in case I turned out to be some sorta flute stalker or something.

 :stuck_out_tongue:
