Me, a harp and a drum…the harpist mostly plays chords, so it’s going to be 95% on me not to screw everything up…

That’s rough, Wanderer! Cause if the music isn’t just right, the
wedding vows are null and void. And everyone has to get reBaptised…
Unless it’s a Catholic wedding, in which case, no worries.
Good Luck!!! Oh, and don’t mess up! Everyone will hate you. Trust me, I know.
Put any more pressure on you?
My wife and I played a friend’s wedding a few weeks back and had the BEST time. She on Alto recorder, and me on acoustic guitar. It was simply wonderful.
You’ll do just fine. People there WANT to have a good time, and they’re in a good mood already. Even if you do mess up a little, you’re still LOTS better than almost anyone in the crowd and they’ll be impressed anyway. Just relax and have fun.
Well, the pressure I was really referring to was the pressure not to drink…because then I’ll be all over the place for sure ![]()
Have fun. I can’t drink and play either. Some people say drinking makes them play better I never understood how.
Just relax and enjoy yourself , Greg ! I did quite a bit of wedding photography during my earlier years and the pressure to make everything “just right” was awesome. I always found that I did my best work when I just “let go” and did what I did best. You’re a terrific whistler , my friend !! Let those folks have a good sample of just how good you are !! Enjoy !! ![]()
Have a Great Day and Fun Whistling !!
Really, I just wanted to brag a little…last year I played at the texas state fair on a little stage at the cotton bowl for 3000 folks from where I work. THAT is pressure. These people I don’t have to see the next day ![]()
Practice, practice, practice! ![]()
In all seriousness, I find that sometimes a pint or two provides liquid courage in the fingers, which is good. OTOH my embouchure (on flute, of course) starts to go flatulent at around the same point in the cycle.
It’s all relative… to how much you believe what your inebriated brain is telling you, and how much you can ignore what your muddled fingers are saying… the more you drink, the easier it is to ignore the nagging, and to forget the whole thing later… easy… not good.
Me either-- I’ll usually nurse ONE Guiness through a session, just to get into the "spirit"of the thing, but more than that I get all mushy mouthed. Real lightweight, despite the Brewerpaul moniker.. ![]()
He did great folks. Last night was some sort of dinner for the wedding party or something. The actual wedding is today. We weren’t on stage beause the place was so packed they had dinner tables on the stage. We were in a corner. Greg’s job was made easier by the fact that we were more or less background music. We did get a “loved your music” from one gal, and a little applause at one point, but for the most part the folks were doing their own thing. We did get paid, though.
Nobody told me you could get paid to do this!
Unfortunately, in my hands, the whistle remains what my father called it when he gave me my first one:
“An ill wind that no one blows good.”
And, in the end, that’s really what matters. ![]()
