I was wondering if anyone knows of where I could pick up some tunes (preferably with guitar chords) that Planxty has played. Arthur Mcbride, Raggle Taggle Gypsy, Sweet Thames flow softly and most others off the black album. I have searched long and hard on the web, but have come up short. Maybe even some from the Bothy Band as well, do you love an apple and so forth…
Michael Coleman!!! THE Michael Coleman??? Wow…
I have just one question for you… where’d you find that $#^&ing piano player?
Chris
I believe you can find most of your list at JC’s ABC Tune Finder. “Do You Love an Apple” is pretty easy to pick up by ear, you may not need the notation.

Contrary to popular belief I am not the Michael Coleman who was an absolute genius on the fiddle in Sligo. Although, he is a relative, (I believe a great uncle or grandfather somewhere) I just tab on my mother’s maiden name to my own, and what pops out, but the best fiddle player in all of Ireland.

I’d like to ask John McKenna that question. I’ve been trying to listen to his playing but it’s not too easy with that piano banging away.
Michael. I have sheet music for Sweet Thames and Raggle Taggle. I don’t have a scanner right now but if your desperate, I can send them to you. These are not copied from Planxty recordings though.

Well done Michael
You passed the test with flying colors… sorry to be a pain in the arse.
Best,
Chris
Steve that would be great, but if it is too much trouble don’t kill yourself over it…because I am sure you might ![]()

Planxty still sounds good all these years later if you want to get restful. For more power and arrangment for guitar you’ll want the Paul Brady version of Arthur McBride http://www.paulbrady.com. Words and music on the site. This is the version Bob Dylan recorded although I’ve never heard him sing(?)it.
