I’m going to the Ennis festival in november, and I’ll take a couple of extra days to visit Galway city. I was wondering what places should not be missed in my visit. I know there are Sam Murray’s and Glenn Watson’s workshops. Is there a music shop in there also? Anything else?
What about nice sessions?
Thanks
The Crane is an awesome place. You should definitely go there. Tig Coili is also a must.
In a place called “The Spanish Arch Hotel”, there is a band called Alale that plays regularly. You should try to catch them, if they play when you are there ![]()
Powells on Four Corners in the main street music shop usually has a few Murrays in stock. Worth walking up along the river to see all the old mill races.
It would be a good idea to call first, and ask if it’s ok before turning up at a someone’s workshop unannounced. They are not tourist attractions ![]()
Aran islands. Skip the sweaters but nothing else.
Shurely Frankie Gavin is Galway’s greatest natural attraction.
Thanks people ![]()
Aran islands in November??? I think a warm pub and a cool Guinness is a MUCH better idea!

Time is short anyway, I won’t make it to the Aran islands.
And I’m a teetotaller ![]()
