I have chance to go to Galway from 22/09/04 to 28/09/04.
My expected short trip:
Galway
Doolin
Clifden
Westport
Could you give me address for session? whistle shop?
Is it possible to see a match of hurling during this period?

Poweell’s on shopstreet in galway [the Four Corners] has a selction of whsiltes, the traditional music shop (not magnetic music) in Doolin had asome but they do stock each and every book and CD available ).

There will be music in Galway, the Crane is a wellknown one, Sean Ryan has the gig there, I am not sure which day. You may catch Emmet Gill and Yvonne Keane there. The place is owned by whistleplayer Mick Crehan and accordeon player Johnny Halloran (but why Johnny..). there are loads of other places with music.

Doolin is one big gig, you’ll drown in it. Loads of good, less touristy stuff in West Clare. If you have wheels do yourself a favour and drive out to Ennistymon or Miltown for music.

Ennistymon interesting. Depends on how you look at it. if you care to sit donw on the fridaynight to play withpaul Dooley. Yes it is. I meantto say there’s nice music in less hectic circumstances. Same for MIltown, fiday night Conor Keane in Clancy’s and Jackie Daly and Caoimhin O Raghallaigh in Friel’s, saturday Jackie again in the Crosses of Annagh or brid DOnohue and Bernadette McCarthy in Friel’s, wednesdays Sean Talty and Henry Benagh in friel’s. other stuff goign on all the time. It’s achoice, Doolin is different although realising you’ll be there in september, it can be nice too. It was jsut to say you have a choice, there’s nice music outside O Connor’s of Doolin.

I second Peter’s suggestions.

Sean Ryans gig is on Sunday’s at 12pm. He’s been doing it for 22 years now. Other pubs where there are good sessions are Tigh Colies (sp?) and Taaffees on Shop St. If you are looking for a good selsction of music on CD try Mulligan Records ( http://indigo.ie/~mulligan/ ) on Middle St. Probably the best selection of Irish Trad anywhere in Ireland (my brother Mike is the owner).
