“A Beautiful used set of Uilleann bagpipes practice set handcrafted by master pipe and reed maker, Seth Gallagher, and played by renowned uilleann piper, Jerry O’Sullivan.”

Jerry O’Sullivan played this set??, Or Jerry O’Sullivan plays a set by Gallagher?

The latter is true, but the former? A bit misleading if it’s not true.

Cheers,

DavidG

Hey!!! I have to sleep sometime…

Ineresting… I’ve had several pipers of note play my pipes at various tionóil, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable using that as an endorsement of the set without specific permission. I don’t doubt that Jerry O. has played the set at some point, but the ad does seem to imply more.

No E(ndoresements)

we can maybe be charitable and assume the seller has a problem with syntax. probably meant to say "the same maker as pipes played by…

says the seller just bought a full set. is he anyone we know?

Yep, certainly looks like a syntax error. I’ll give him/her the benefit of the doubt.
A bit misleading on the pipes wait time though especially if a potential purchaser of pipes specifically wanted a Seth Gallagher set as I believe his wait time is around 10 months, not two years.
However, someone is in for a quality practice set here so no harm done. I am hearing some excellent reports about Gallagher sets.
As an aside, 'tis a pity the sound files are still down on the Gallagher website. I’m wondering if he has run into problems of copyright with Paddy Malloney’s agent.
Now if the item had been a set by a Pakistani maker… :poke:
Joseph (the UK one)

The problem with the sound files on the Gallagher website that the link is for an mp3 file, but the sound files are .wav files. You can play any of the files by substituting .wav for the .mp3 part of the filename.

For example:

change

http://www.uilleann.com/music/moloney.mp3

to

http://www.uilleann.com/music/moloney.wav

and the sound clip will play.

I sent a e-mail to them about i quite awhile ago …

You can hear Gay McKeon playing his C Coyne set with his Gallagher C chanter on The Late Session from last week I think at:

Gobleshoo,

Patrick.

Gay McKeon is technically very accomplished, but he is not my favourite piper. However, there are a few tracks where all three sets are playing together. Gay said they all thought it was mad, that it would come out sounding terrible, but the couple of cuts I heard were mesmerizing. I have their new CD ordered and on its way from NPU. Can’t wait to hear the rest of it.

I received a copy of the new McKeon CD “The Dusty Miller” on Sunday and it is indeed very good. Tight tidy playing! Sean especially is doing some amazing stuff. It’s nice on this group recording that each musician is featured solo also.

Each of the McKeon’s take three solo tracks a piece with six in ensemble. Some lovely tune selections too. Conor takes on some less frequently visited tunes for the pipes and plays solo on his ‘B’ Rogge set.

Gay plays his ‘C’ Coyne set for the solo tracks with his recently aquired Seth Gallagher chanter.

Accompaniment is provided beautifully on guitar by Arty McGlynn.

Patrick.

This must be the smashed set that someone sat on years ago at a pub. I look forward to hearing this CD. Thanks.
