I received my copy today and I like the playing and talking of Paddy Keenan
specially the 4 air’s he plays (two slow airs on a flat set)
Might get the DVD just for that alone… ![]()
to be precise
1 air in concert pitch (John Walsh’s) beautifull regulator playing
flat set 3/4 origin?
air the coolin
air Molly Ban
set dance The Blackbird
and Mick Coyne piping and singing a song
(I am a Rambling Irishman)
who else was listening to and was seeing the performance on dvd?
I am very happy to have a more than perfect recording of Mr. Keenan
your comment please
Who is the maker of the flat set Paddy plays?
If I remember rightly what Gerry Lyons told me, they borrowed Nollaig Mac Cárthaigh’s flat set.
Can’t remember who made it though. Duh
Nollaig had the coyne that Geoff Wooff retored on extended loan, maybe it was that one.I remember reading that geoff thought that the coyne was one of the best he had ever seen or heard
RORY
Nollaig has been playing a Joe Kennedy C# for a number of years. He didn’t get on all that well with the Coyne.

Who is the maker of the flat set Paddy plays?
Benedict Koehler & David Quinn. A 3/4 set in C belonging to Emmett Gill

That’d be the same set Sean McKeon plays on a few tracks of ‘Dublin Made Me’ then.
Right, it’s Emmett’s set; I misremembered.
I’ve only just watched a bit of it, but started with Paddy and his segment is mesmerizing. Even after sitting staring at him for a week at Swannanoa (also where I got the DVD), I still can’t figure out what magic happens when he plays – but it’s just not of this earth.
great replies
thank you all
and Cathy, yes it is magic
