Pictures in Grey Larsen book

I don’t know if anyone else has this problem, but as I read and work through Grey’s Essential Guide, I have problems concentrating and learning what he’s trying to teach. I can’t seem to take my eyes off of the beautiful flute and whistle pictures he puts in there. Is it me, or should he think of publishing a no pictures version for those who want to hold back WhOA and FlOA and learn a little bit. I always feel like I need a bucket by my side as I read to catch the drool. :stuck_out_tongue:

BTW- I really have serious respect for all those who make beautiful instruments, especially by hand. Thank you very much instrument makers!!

Just glue photos of Abe Vigoda over the ones in the book.

Has anyone cut off the binding and put a spiral comb in their copy?

Impossible to keep open, much less get distracted by…

I’ve done that with most of my music books, actually. I intend to do that with Larsen’s eventually.

Me, too, monk, but its a thick one.

Oh…“Grey” Larson! When I read the thread I thought it said “Pictures in Gary Larsen book” and I had visions of cattle standing around playing whistles.
I think I need some sleep!

A spiral binding would be great! I ended up photocopying the tunes I’m learning and leaving the big tome home.

The black-and-white photos don’t bother me much. It’s that one of the bone whistle I keep staring at, though. I’m thinking that instead of donating my body to science, I’ll send my femurs to Chris Abell.

I usually go to kinkos and ask for “coil binding”. it costs about $5 per book, and it’s sooo handy to have the books just sit open.

Grey Larsen has. He said he wanted it be released that way, but the publisher wouldn’t go for it.

I find it quite amusing to compare the photos on page 71 (Grey demonstrating “Two incorrect holding angles which cause a kink or bend in the airstream and, eventually, bodily discomfort”) with the photo on page 378 (Willy Clancy).

Willy must have been one kinky guy. And a lefty too!

monkey587, does Kinko’s cut off the binding of the original book and insert a spiral comb or is the service only for books that they copy?
