I’d like to get the April 2011 revision of Grey Larsen’s book: The Essential Guide to Irish Flute and Tin Whistle
Does anyone knows if ordering from Amazon they’ll send the April 2011 revision or maybe the older ones?
Thanks.

Can’t answer your question regarding Amazon, but :
here are the changes between the older version and the 2011 version.
Best wishes.

I know, I’ve also included this link in my post, but as I want to buy the book new, I’d like to know if ordering now will deliver the April 2011 revision. Amazon is the easiest way for me. The info (2003 edition) and preview that appears at Amazon are from the older revisions, but maybe someone has ordered one and can tell which one they deliver… or where else can (the April 2011 revision) be obtained?
Got mine from Amazon (UK) last November and it’s the revised printing, so (while I obviously can’t guarantee it) doubt they’ve still got older stock lying around for something so popular.
I have ordered one from Amazon.es (Spain). I hope they deliver the revised printing also. Let’s see…
I’ve received mine today. And yes, it is the April 2011 revision.

Sorry to thread-jack, but I’m curious, does anyone know how this book differs from the “Essential Tin Whistle Toolbox”? Wondering if the content is different, and if there’s a particular order they should be read in. I understand one big difference is the Flute & Whistle book includes the flute obviously, but I’m just wondering if the “Toolbox” is the same book minus the flute parts? Is there a reason to own both?
This is what the Grey Larse’s page says about the subject:

How did I miss that page?? I spent a good hour looking thru Grey’s site earlier. Thank you for linking this, this is exactly what I needed to know.
… also says something about the Toolbox here:
Chapter 5 - Getting Comfortable with Fingering. This chapter contains information for beginning whistle players that is not included in Grey’s 480-page book, The Essential Guide to Irish Flute and Tin Whistle.
The complete text of Chapter 5 is available in pdf format.
Thanks again. I downloaded the PDF, and I ordered the Flute & Whistle book on Sunday. Looking forward to checking it out, it looks like it’s a monster of a book at 480 pages. The reviews on amazon say the binding is really poor. I wonder if the new version addresses this, or if I should consider taking it to a print shop to be spiral bound. Guess I’ll know tomorrow. ![]()
Spiral bound (or anything that allows it to open flat) will certainly enhance the ability to keep it open while learning/playing the tunes included. I always wonder why all books with tunes don’t come with a better binding for lying flat.
Grumpy in Dartmouth.
