Itās PVC with a coated wood fipple plug. I just painted it today and the clear coat had just dried before I posted the pic.
I have pipes for it in D, E, F & G, but have so far only painted the D pipe since thatās the one I play most often

I tried making one of those. And I cannot for the life of me get a decent working mouthpiece. But the body sounds great. Can you give me any links or advice on how to make a working mouthpiece.

Iāll tell ya bud, that has been a constant source of frustration for me for the past week. I can get one that will play pretty much everytime, but 95% of them are breathy and lose strength in the upper octaveā¦
I simply sand down a section of dowel rod until it fits in the pipe and then cut a channel the same width as the window in it. I donāt have a precise measurement but itās a tad less than 1/8 of an inch deep. You want to cut it so that the blade approximately 1/2 way down the windway when you sight it:
The rest of the headache is getting the placement correct. Too close to the blade and the lower register is bad. Too far away and it getās breathy and loses the upper registerā¦
BTW, Iām pretty much finished with the Mark II and this time I paid close attention to what I did and am confident that I can reproduce it. The tone is very similar to the Mark I, maybe even a little betterā¦ Iāll get a clip up soon.
I think that when I do start selling them that itās going to be on a one by one basis until I get in the groove (no pun intended) and see how many I can turn out. Who knows, maybe noone will want them but I donāt want to get 100 orders in the first month and not be able to fill them eitherā¦

Yep, the headjoint is black and the body is burgundy satin.
The tuning joint is a PVC pipe joint that I shaped for asthetics. It works suprisingly well and is a snap to install. It is glued to the head and the body slides. It will tune a good 20 cents sharp or flat and doesnāt slip at all. I may try an O-ring arrangement on it later just to be a bit fancier, but itās really not necessary.
The whistle looks great, but that chair, eeegads man! Perhaps you could put some of you obvious talent in re-upolstering that thing!

I think being able to make a whistle is wonderful and you should be really chuffed with yourself. :_)

A few comments:
Make sure to cut the insides of the pipe are nice and smooth at the coupler - if the air flows across the coupler and the ends are sharp it will cause vortices to reduce the bore area and make it sound weak. You can trim the insides with an exacto knife.
On cutting the fipple ramp, the underside of the ramp is ignored by many first time whistle builders - the underside ramp is more gradual on a PVC whistle than the exterior ramp but it should be there. A small file makes a good way to shape the underside ramp.
Keep it up, PVC is cheap - a great prototyping material.
