Hi people,
It has been a very long time since I have been anywhere near this site so it is great to be back! Two things, firstly, I have a ripped copy of Phil Hardy’s Highs and Lows album. Unfortunately, there is no track listing and there are a couple of tunes on there that I sort of know but have no idea what the names of them are. I don’t suppose there is someone else out there with a ‘real’ version who could transcribe the listing for me?
Secondly, those of you who are long time members may remember me from the past, I am a whistle maker - Weston Whistles - and a little time ago I was privileged to be given a plank of Oak. Not very exciting you may think. But this plank was the last bit of 90-odd tons of oak recovered from the Thames mud in 1996. This oak was all that remained of the original wharf and bridge that the Romans built during their occupation of Britain and it has been carbon dated to AD63.
Whilst not technically Bog Oak, usually in the region of 10,000 years old not just 2,000, this wood has a unique provenance and history. I made a whistle out of it and it has turned out rather well!
It is a tunable Sop D and I feel the urge to share it with the community. I would like to put it out to a very short and very exclusive tour and given that it is a on-off piece that cannot ever be re-created, I would like to keep the tour to serious players and reviewers please. It wouldn’t be the first whistle I have lost on a tour!
If anyone is keen to have a go, please drop me a line via the website - http://www.westonwhistles.co.uk. Please give me bit of a resume too and I will select a sensible tour route from those interested parties.
I don’t have the whistle at the moment, it is being reviewed by a professional musician over here at the moment so as soon as I get it back, I will be able to set things in motion.
I can send out a couple of pics as well.
