Personal Catch Phrases

It is the rare bridge that I am fine burning down. I used to sit next to a lady at work who would say, watch who you talk about becasue you never know where they’ll turn up next. Our small private agency had to deal with a super large conglomerate and people who were absolute bozos, would achieve through cunning scheming and personal knowledge, appointments as Vice Presodent of Bozology. Then they’d get on local public access TV.

S**t or get out of the kitchen.

Caught myself with one of my own this morning:

“If it was easy, anybody could do it.”

“Without a doubt.”

‘Never give a sucker an even break.’

“we’re all in it together”
DeNiro as Harry Tuttle in Gilliam’s Brazil

“If we had all the sticks in the world we couldn’t shake them at it”
(one drunken night back in undergrad. Still not sure what we meant by it, but somehow it resonates for me)

Probably a reference to (for instance) “More dogs than you could shake a stick at”. I expect if there were only a couple of dogs you could shake a stick at them and they would run away. If they were in greater numbers they would not. Usage good for dogs, sheep, cows, geese, football hooligans, politicians, papparazzi. Usage not good for houses, paint tins, battleships, spiders, classical orchestral musicians, morris dancers and other inanimate objects.

Classical orchestral musicians and morris dancers are used to sticks being shaken at them. :poke:

One of my Mom’s catch phrases. “People in Hell want ice water. That doesn’t mean they’re gonna get it.”

You don’t want to ask her where something goes either.
