Paul McGlinchey - New Album - "The Boys of the Town"

Firstly, can I thank those who have posted and have emailed me complimenting the new album, much appreciated.

I accept by putting out an album and by leaving samples on the web, that I am inviting comment, including negative comment. I admit to finding some of the terminology used excessive, but perhaps I am too touchy about the new CD? Musical appreciation is subjective, not everyone will like it; however, the person who most needed to be happy about the finished product was me, and, I am; I am very pleased with the sound, tunes, production artwork etc. I think that the vast majority will feel the same way too.

The album can now be downloaded from http://www.irishtradtunes.comfor those who are technologically more advanced than me.

I know it is very far away for a lot of members of this forum, but the album launch will be in McCann’s bar, John Street, Omagh on the 1st December 2011 at 8pm, all welcome!

Best wishes,

Paul

Got the cd and listened to it. Overall first impression is great playing. Indeed, some track have a lot of reverb, but, as a whole, it’s a good CD. Thanks for that , Paul.

Paul - lest you thought otherwise, I was only criticizing the apparent need for some to say something critical; from what I’ve already heard, you’ve much to be proud of. If you had pulled off a recording that everyone loved on every level, you’d have performed a miracle, not a trad album. Well done! FWIW, the much-noted reverb seemed completely appropriate to me. Good luck with the record release in Omagh! Would certainly love to be there, but, alas…

Hi Paul just got your new Album, it sounds amazing you should be very proud. A pure masterclass in how to play the flute !!!

Will come to the launch and see all the boys of the town in the town …

Brendan

Hi Brendan,
Heard you were in Ennis, few of the guys met you for the first time and have been commenting on both how great your playing was, but also on how you are a totally genuine all-round great guy.
Thanks for your comments, hope to see you in Omagh on the 1st december.
Paul

Hi Paul,
Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the new CD, got it on the iPhone now and if there’s any way I can make it up for the launch, I’ll be there.

All the best,
Tom McElvogue

A couple of videos from the CD launch. The pictures are very dark, low-lit pub etc but the sound quality is good.

Great to watch those clips Paul, was a mighty nights music and craic, you boys from the town know how to make the horses feel welcomed !! Keep up the great playing.

Brendan.

Love it, inspiring playing. I don’t think the reverb criticism from jemtheflute is fair or helpful in the least. Aircraft hanger indeed!

I would try and get it on itunes and amazon asap though Paul. A band I play with now make about 25% of album income from these two sources and distributers tell us people are turning to download and an ever increasing rate, even in the traditional music genre which has resisted more than most.
