CP: Brendan Mulholland album and new website.

Hi there fellow fluters,

I hope this is ok to post this here but if not I will gladly remove.

My new website is up and running, with a few small problems to adjust on the audio clips which will be sorted ASAP. I plan to put live clips in from my Album launch this Friday up when I get a chance and to keep the site fresh by adding in tunes as and when I get the chance. Anybody who wants a link to anything flute related just drop me a line and I will get it on to my links page. My new album " Jean’s Hill " that alot of you have sent me messages about is finally available to buy from the site and well as my first recording " Tuned Up " in 2008. For the flute anoraks among us Tuned up was recorded on Kevin Crawfords E flat flute but since then I have aquired my own which is on Jean’s Hill.

Regards Brendan Mulholland

Great stuff Brendan!

Thanks sigmund, it would have been very usefull of me to attach the link

Hi Brendan,

first time listen to your music last week when I saw a session recording of you with some friends of mine. I’ve watched the whole hour and enjoyed it very much and now you release your solo CD. Great!

I’ll order it tomorrow. I’ve allready listen to the soundfiles this afternoon. Great playing. Looking forward.

I enjoyed the samples. Really liked the style that you play.

Same here; I knew the name but didn’t know the music until yesterday, but I’ve downloaded Tuned Up and I’m loving it…great playing. So many great players out there. The samples on the website aren’t working for me BTW.

Will the new CD be available for download anywhere???

Adrian

I will put it up on line over the weekend if I get a chance, and the first CDs will be posted out on Thursday next week for anyone who has put orders in. ( Thank You )

Brendan

I think that the samples are fixed. I checked this morning.

Bendan,

The shipping to usa. Is it 2 GBP as in the basket on your site?

I really love your playing on the samples.

Rob Robison

Thanks skyspirit, glad you like it.

£2.00 for postages is correct.

( As you all may gather, I am not very good at the buisness side of music, new to me. Prefer to be learning tunes instead. )

B.

Great stuff Brendan, congrats!

I’ve had a copy of Brendan’s recording for a couple weeks now…and wanted to give it a listen before proffering thoughts.

Great stuff. Truly great stuff.

For many of the trax, i thing “accessible” best describes the playing. At other times it’s quite creative, and still others somewhat understated.

It’s a testament to Brendan’s fine playing. On the recording, Tuned Up, you hear some wonderfully synchronized playing with little fanfare of ornament.

Jean’s Hill is a different take entirely. You get to hear Brendan “unplugged” as it were.

I especially liked his performance of the famed Coolin’ air, which he offers on a lovely Bb flute. It’s not an idea I’d ever considered for that tune and it’s a nice new feel for it.
I probably would have moved it upward in tempo merely because Bb can feel like a slog through the mud at times, but too fast can simply take away from the clarity of the lovely tone.

Brilliant stuff that should be a “must listen” recording for quite some time.

Well done, Brendan!

Thanks for the review. Sold me on it. Going to order. Just orderd.

I really enjoyed his treatment of the hornpipes.

I am glad that you mentioned that. In my humble opinion, I thought so as well. I really liked how he did the hornpipes.

He has a O’Ot Be Est Da Vong/Maid of the House [Medley] on the Wooden Flute Obsession vol 3 disk one track 9

I look forward to getting the new CD. I ordered yesterday

hornpipes are the strangest of the animals of tunes to get right.

precision of timing is utmost as is the critical pulse. More so, though, is tempo and each hornpipe dictates it differently.

I like what Brendan did with the hornpipes, and to hear them unaccompanied is blissful, but I think Brendan has a better sense of these tunes w/o the mic at his face. In other words, i sensed the hornpipe to be the only tunes that likely sound much much better in person than on tape for Brendan.

nevertheless, the strolling tempos were beautifully done.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the kind words about the new CD it means alot !! Finally got the audio clips up on the website for ye to have a wee listen to, still trying to get it online for download but its a bit too complicated for me, so I will get one of my computer anorak friends to do it soon. The launch was last Friday in Belfast and I got the whole night on video what a blast it was, will be sure to put the clips on the website in the next few weeks or so.

Keep tooting !!!

Brendan

Got the cd today. Very nice selection of tunes. I like your playing very much.
Thanks and all the best!

Moritz

Listened to this Jean’s Hill yesterday and today. I will listen it again tomorrow…I I don’t think I will be able to listen to anything else for a while! Very good, very pleasent!
not easy to find such good music around. You can realy hear all the flow and all of that is in the tunes! Excellent!

I got mine yesterday. I really like how the CD was packaged with the description for each tune. Reminds me of a Native American flute player who did the same thing and gave the key and flutemaker for each one that she played. Later, she stopped doing that and I missed that.

Hope that Brendan continues what he started in future CDs.

I really like Brendan’s playing as well. The hornpipes are a delight.

Gotta get to Belfast lol…enjoyed your company B & S
