Dear Fluting friends,
Now available on pre-release order, 1 week ahead of launch, is a new recording Im very excited about: “wooden flute & fiddle”
Calum Stewart : Wooden Flute
Lauren MacColl : fiddle, viola
Éamon Doorley : bouzouki
Andy May : harmonium
It’s available through www.calum-stewart.com , which takes you to a secure online shop. Available worldwide at a very reasonable £10, with £1.50 uk and £2.50 worldwide postage. (or free postage if you come and pick up a copy in person, and have a cuppa too!)
The music is very much old Scottish repertoire: Strathspeys, reels, marches and jigs. There are a few new compositions nestled in there too, and a couple of Irish tunes for good measure.
I’m really excited by the repertoire and the sound, so I hope you enjoy!
There is a demo on soundloud here (one of the compositions of Lauren)
Good news Calum.
After buying your last cd (the one you did with guitarist with Heikki Bourgault) I have no hesitation in ordering this one and have just done so. I loved the freshness as well as the marvellous musicality of that album and look forward to more in the new one.
John
Congratulations on the release - you kept quiet about this one (release date 22nd October?!)
My order is the one which failed through my Macbook Tiger OSX and completed on smartphone lol. It’ll stand out as the order for 2x CDs with the weird request for it to be autographed
Will be fantastic to hear you tour with this new work (and Lauren)
Hi Rob,
That’s great! It’s not actually me who deals with the distribution this time, but Lauren and I will do our best to sign the copies! We are currently at different ends of Scotland, but we have mutual friends going to Ullapool and Jura (where I’m playing this weekend)… So we’ll make it work! Your CDs will be well travelled!
Best, Calum
No, you don’t have to sign up to soundcloud. I’ve not used it a lot myself, but you should be able to arrive at the page and play the music
Good luck, Calum
Thanks, Calum. No, it looks like it’s an issue with my computer. But a kind soul PMed me with a link to the actual MP3 itself, and so I was able to listen to your example. Nice stuff!
I’m really looking forward to hearing this - incredible that you’re playing in the north western reaches of Ullapool. Would be even more amazing to play out in the Isle of Lewis. I still remember how to count to 10 in Scottish Gaelic (well, maybe 7 now…)
Well, I goes and orders it online, pays an’all that. Gotta have it, like, see. And then I goes and gets asked to review it for a magazine. So, review advance copy received today. And listened to. Twice and a bit. Can’t say much - haven’t written review yet, and when I do, can’t really post a version of it until well after the mag comes out… I think I’m going to have to listen to it quite a few more times. It’ll have to join the others in the car…
But my problem is, what am I going to do with the bought copy when it comes? Guess I’ll have to give it to someone for Xmas or something… Oh dear.
Oh, and in case anyone was in any doubt, it’s really quite nice.
Listened to it yesterday when it came out of the jiffy bag, and again on the way home from work on the train. Really nice mix of tunes, enjoyed it a lot. Some CDs get played once or twice then slide off my playlist, others stick around as newer discs come in; this one, i’m sure, is going into the latter pile (alongside the Calum & Heikki CD).
And whilst 36 minutes is short, i’d rather have 36 minutes of quality than 50 minutes of which at least 15 are filler to get it up to ‘album length’ …
