Hi Chanterdan,

Check out Ross’ Music Page, he has some tunes for the pastoral pipes, notably The Sutherland Manuscript, The Advocates Manuscript and Geoghegan’s Compleat Tutor.

Also Chris Bayley, a regular contributor to this forum, makes pastoral pipes.

Cheers, David

Hamish Moore recorded a couple of tracks playing a set of pastoral pipes on his first two albums “Cauld Wind Pipes” and “Open Ended”, both of which are available only on vinyl.

Ok.. I am going WAY out on a limb here. If you go to my site
http://www.wireharp.com/wireharp_006.htm there is a small snippet of “Colonel McBaine” from the Sutherland MS that Ross had put online (c.1785). I was playing less than one year when I did this, and I have no CLUE if this is what they are supposed to sound like. These are the pipes I wrote about a while back, which gave me so much trouble in making a full set of reeds,. ( And still do). With any luck Mr Bayley , their maker, might venture to that page and tell me if that is the correct sound or not.

I would kill for those eBay pipes… kill I tell you. I have no money at all .. but am willing to kill.. come on.. tell me you want someone ki.. :moreevil: eh hell. Never mind.

Thats sounds fine Robert

Ebay pipes - am waiting to hear back if the original chanter is with them and if it is untouched by another makers sharp objects - always the problem with historical sets.

You missed the chance to hear a newish set in Vancouver, couple weeks back.

If you were to procure that set through murder, I can only shudder at the bad joo-joo or karma that would be associated with it, for example, you might only be able to get tunes written by Tiny Tim out of it.

Drat. I was going to go and bring a huge platter of canapés, but realized at the last minute that I was double-booked on social events for the evening Oh well, I’ll be sure to make it the next time somebody’s playing a gaggle of different bagpipes in Vancouver, WA…

£2150.00 not a bad price and won by ‘piob-info’ - would this be Ross Anderson I wonder ?

If so any chance of more pictures, report on if and how they play
