Paddy M & Sindt

I may be behind the times, and I’m sure everyone else noticed but I was surprised to see Paddy Maloney playing a Sindt whistle (instead of his old well-loved Generation) on the PBS special Down the Old Plank Road. ( I didn’t know he had switched) Congratulations John - you do make lovely traditional whistles and it is great to see some of the best performers enjoying them.

Does Paddy play a Sindt ‘D’?-AND if so,presumably he has to half hole to get a decent C natural, like the rest of us.
NOW THEN,can anyone enlighten me- DOES Paddy usually half hole on other whistles -i.e. ‘Generations’, a la Mary Bergin?
I’m a Sindt fan,by the way-GREAT whistles!

Yep, Paddy played both a D and a Bb Sindt during that show… and a Burke composite, but I forget which key.
I too was rather surprised that he never brought out a Generation.

I play Sindt whistles and do not use the half hole C natural. I tune by breath control (slightly underblow the C natural with the oxxooo fingering) If I have a sustained C natural, I may add fingers (also facilitates a roll on the C natural - oxxoxx) Don’t know about Paddy M. but I didn’t notice anything out of tune with his whistles although it was difficult to hear him clearly with all the other stuff going on.
