Hi everyone. I appreciate this community maintaining this page. I’m a relative of Paddy and Jim Lavin, pipers from Roscommon. KL Rietmann once had a YouTube page with some of their recordings. I’ve been unable to reach Rietmann and wonder if he is still active in this community. The family is trying to recover these recordings. Many thanks.
You should post this to the piping forum and perhaps the mods can move this?
Kevin Rietmann hasn’t been to the forum for a long time and last time we exchanged emails is some years ago so I don’t know what the story is.
I had some Jim Lavin stuff but that may well be his commercial recording although I did exchange at of stuff with KR.
You may want to try ITMA, Npu etc. And as you are in the Netherlands, you could try Robert van Dijk who has a lot of ‘stuff’. He has dropped out of piping though but you may be able to contact him through his website, if that is still up, or else the Dutch pipers (nvup.nl) may be able to put you into contact.
Thank you! OK. It’s possible Rietmann used the photograph of Paddy Lavin as the video thumbnail and that the audio was actually that of Jim’s published cassette. I’m just not sure.
If you look at Nick Whitmer’s page on the Lavins, several recordings are mentioned, at ITMA and NPU, as I already mentioned, but slso the Comhaltas archive see here for those (you may need to sign up).
