Does anybody know of any sessions going on in Ottawa this coming Friday? I’ll be in Ottawa just for Friday night and would love to find local musicians to play with.
On Friday? I can’t think of any public ones… I think they’re mostly Wednesday and Thursday, maybe somewhere out in the Valley if you have a car. You’ll want to ask WhistlingGypsy, I think he’d know better than I.

I’ve looked for weekend sessions in Ottawa before, at Christmas last year, but found that there were none. They’re usually all during the week, aren’t they?
That’s too bad for us out-of-towners who can only make it on weekends, and who’d like to find alternatives to the local scene in Montreal, even for just one weekend here and there… Oh well…
Yeah it’s a shame, but I’m thinking the Irish Society is really going to get in gear this year, things will hopefully pick up big time.
And so they should - isn’t Ottawa hosting the Comhaltas convention in 2005? That’ll be good, if things pick up on weekends - good for me anyway…
Yep, it sure is. That’s what’s funny, they have one of the largest societies… just not too visible. Should change though, I’ve heard that the Irish Society is trying to bring all the other groups like comhaltas under its umbrella… even rumours of an Irish Community Centre.
I haven’t hit this one yet, but apparently there is a good session at Patty’s on Sunday night, it is an Irish pub sortof South of downtown on Bank.
We should post a list of sessions in Ottawa on here, I just don’t know them all.

About 1 hours drive south of Ottawa, in Brockville there is a Ceihli Friday evening - starts about 8:00 at the pub at St Lawrence College. Very informal and low key but lots of fun and a pretty good set of local musicians and dancers.

Does this happen frequently? My family lives about 30 mins away from Brockville (in Ogdensburg, NY), and I would love to go next time I’m up there!

I have only been to one of the Sunday nights but they are probably intermediate/advanced, basically if you don’t know the tune step out.
There is also Rasputins near Carleton U, Monday nights at 7:30.
And yes that Sunday night at Patty’s is the one right by Carleton U.
I went their one night with a great girl and the pub is pretty nice too!
