Chiff & Fipple subscriber Tom Dowling is my friend. He lives in New York City with a fabulous view of Manhattan. Tom is a photographer, among other things. I’ve included his photos on the bottom of the main C&F website recently. Well, you won’t believe this:
Just saw a live shot of this on the evening news, but the photo from across the river makes it much more clear.
As one commentator said earlier this evening, it was supposed to be a temporary memorial, but it’s so striking they should leave it in the final design.
Really breathtaking, Tom. I too, think they should leave it as a permanent memorial as a statement to the world: The towers may have been destroyed and thousands of people perished, but their light will shine forever. Gm
I’ve posted a 2nd photo of the towers. You’ve got to see it. Tom’s photo, combined with this one from the AP, gives you a real sense of what this memorial looks like. And, boy, do I agree that they ought to figure a way to make it permanent.
Thanks for your kind words. If anyone would like the JPEG of that photo, just let me know. I will be happy to e-mail it to you. It takes a couple of minutes to upload, so if I can send out a few at one time, that is easier for me. My e-mail address is TOMDOWL@AOL.COM
I took that shot just after a most excellent Monday night Bill Ochs whistle class!! The music is our best defense against the negativity that is otherwise so easy to slip into.
In case you were wondering, in addition to being a talented photographer, Tom is a fine whistle player with a unique style - call it the Brooklyn Heights school of Irish pennywhistling. Nicely done, Tom. See you tomorrow.
Thanks for sharing the photo. I think this memorial is perfect. I spent alot of time in New York as a mental health volunteer since 911. While I am not there to see it in person, seeing your photo makes me feel close once again to all those I worked with and for in New York. THANKS.
Aw Shucks Jim, you’re makin’ me blush. Missed you today at the real fine Davy Spillane/Kevin Glackin performance at the Irish Arts Center. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow night in class.
