OT (sort of) -- CDNOW & Amazon

Speaking of shopping … does anyone else use CDNOW wish lists? A friend sent me to hers and it seems to be gone, due to some merger between CDNOW and Amazon. Does anyone know how one can still get at the CDNOW wish lists?

I have a CDNow wish list, which I’ve been able to access continually. One accesses another’s wish list by using an email address, but the viewable items must be listed as public (or gift, or something). It’s possible that either the person didn’t make the items public or that s/he uses a different email address (I know I do) for commercial transactions.

Thanks, Charlie – but that’s not it. She can’t get it herself anymore either. I know she knows how because she was in it yesterday. The merge seemed to happen last night.

I’m a little surprised you can still get in. I was looking around the web sites and it seems to say anything you had on CDNOW before 12/3 is gone. No answer as yet to my e-mail asking about that.

I wonder if it has to do with having or not having an amazon account before the merger . . .

D’Oh!!!

I can’t get in either. This really sucks, because I spent about an hour last night making a list of stuff to get for my wife.

Plus they didn’t say anything about stuff getting lost after last night.

Well, I asked the Amazon people and received a pretty prompt reply. Here’s the deal:

You can still get to your own wish list at

http://www.cdnowpbc.com/

There’s a button toward the top of the page. I’m not sure about accessing someone else’s. Try enterint their email address.

Now, here’s the bad news. The PBC in the web addy stands for “Preferred buyers’ club.” The email I received said: “However, please note that titles added to your CDNow Wish List that
are not available through the CDNow Preferred Buyer’s Club web site
will not be available on this list.” I found only two of the roughly 40 titles that had been on my wish list. I did a little investigating, and, for example Boccherini isn’t in their classical catalogue at all, and Solas (ferchrissakes) isn’t in their catalogue at all. There are only nine titles from Yes.

I just did all my holiday shopping at CDUniverse.

Thanks, Charlie. You did better than we did – only one of our titles was left. cduniverse it is – along with e-mails to cdnow and amazon letting them know why. I’ll make sure to mention that I did all my shopping at cduniverse – my partner pointed out to me that they probably don’t care about losing sales of items they don’t carry now anyway. I suppose ditching all of those functions as an underhanded way of forcing you to buy something they do stock.

They are on my s&*tlist big time.
