ooooo… this is a political one ain’t it? Everyone has pretty much said all there is to say about the war one way or the other, so I have a comment on one of those “parallels”.
I have 2 very dear friends of mine that are over there in the dust and sand preparing for whatever is about to happen, ready to defend this country along with the rest of our fine proud military. They happen to be a couple like many people, that have different beliefs than majority, but I will tell you that a finer class of people would be difficult to find anywhere on this planet.
Try to take God(s) or Godess(es) out of your decision process. If nothing else, think about the fact that our military itself contains most likely every religious belief you could possibly imagine. They’re all Americans.
I guess the root of my point is that I find it horribly sad that in the past people were killed in masses for their beliefs only (and many were just plain accused of it to be gotten rid of too). What is even more sad to me personally anyway, is that it still happens today in one fashion or another.
Just my own thoughts. Don’t want to stir up another huge debate here, just making a statement is all. I realize there was a ton of political, control, and war uses for it all and etc., but that’s way too much to go into here. That’s all I wanted to say… just think about all of our loved ones afar that believe in many different ways… but all of them are fighting for each and every one of you (and me).
Take care all. Praying that we all make it through this as quickly as possible with as little loss as possible.
John
I would be a much less tolerable person if I took God out of my decision-making process.

I hope that was therapeutic, because it sure doesn’t help the discussion. Felling better? ![]()
Hey, tinuviel… wanna come to my room and I’ll cough show you my Catechism? It’s in Latin… ![]()
(Who ever said it doesn’t pay to study medieval history?)
“History, said Stephen, is a nightmare from which I am trying to awake.”

I can’t say that I’ve got anything of substance to contribute here, but I was just talking with a friend last night who happens to be half Scots, half Iraqi (Assyrian Christian if it makes a difference; they left because of attacks on their village from Muslim Iraqis and Kurds. Guess it takes sectarianism to get enemies on the same page. ). Anyway, as an American, he’s feeling all the conflicts that so many of us are, but as one of partly Iraqi descent, he’s especially torn up inside. I’ll be content with my own sick feeling in my gut compared to that.
Ummm…TSam, care to elucidate?
I’m guessing TSam isn’t a big Ulysses fan. Just have to read the book for a class, Sam?
I rather like Joyce. He can carry on, though. . .

There is a growing body of evidence that it was the Israeli Mossad – not Muslim fanatics – that attacked our USA on September 11th, 2001:

Maybe the Trilateral Comission and the Iluminati were involved, too, eh?
Joyce happens to be one of my favorite authors, actually. I liked the half of Ulysses that I read (I got sucked into LotR before I finished it). A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is my favorite non-fantasy book…
Holy Sh’moley. I missed the Stephen Dedalus reference. Joyce is one of those authors I return to time and again (“Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man” -one of my faves, too). I loved “Ulysses” once it hit me that it was formatted à la ‘stream of consciousness’. Made it easier to follow -at times.
I recently picked up “Finnegan’s Wake” at a used bookstore, and the proprietor pityingly said “Good luck”. Indeed. I’ve now put away the I Ching and instead randomly open the ‘Wake’ for all my divining needs. ![]()
Oops. Consider this thread now un-hijacked. ![]()
Pfft. Some threads need to be hijacked. I nominate this one…
Sincere thanks to you both for reminding me I’m still to read anything from Joyce afore I croak. I was nearly missing priorities ![]()
There’s so much to read,
Whatever’s seen already
So little time is left.

Yeah, and the Crystal people were paid by Lyndon Johnson to assassinate JFK.
Ya gotta watch those conspiracy sites. Paranoid schizophrenia may be contageous.

Yes, the theory was put forth by a Frenchman.

Did you see this?
FRENCH ADVISORS TEACH SURRENDER TECHNIQUES TO IRAQIS.
The AP reported today that French Military Advisors have been flown in under UN cover to secret locations in Iraq for the specific purpose of teaching surrender techniques to the Iraqi Army. “You have to raise BOTH hands,” one Advisor was quoted as saying. “It is also a good idea to soil yourself”. Before being hurriedly escorted from the base, one newsman reported seeing “several hundred French and Iraqi soldiers soiling themselves while waving both hands in the air”. - Reuters
How utterly spiritual! ![]()
Did you make it up yourself, or merely picked it from the Sunday paper, as usual?
No, but I did get this from the paper…

I wonder if he can yodel?
