OT: Sad news re: Johnny Cunningham

I just got an email from a musician friend that was forwarded. Apparently the original came from Joanie Madden stating:

"Hello Everyone,

I’m sad to report the passing of a truly gifted musician, composer and outrageously funny man, Scottish fiddler Johnny Cunningham. He passed away late last night in New York apparently from a heart attack.

I don’t have any other details as of yet, but thought everyone would like to know. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. He will be sorely missed "

Awful news…:sniffle:

P.S. This occurred Monday night.

Truly sad news…I’ll never forget the week when he was at Augusta in the early 90’s. He was up all night, every night of the week, playing until dawn. The energy he brought to sessions was amazing.

I heard it on the BBC radio news early this morning (5-6 a.m.). I was only half-awake and hoped I had just imagined it.

It’s a great loss.

Damn, that sucks. He was a great fiddler, but he really shone as a tune writer.

Four of his performances are archived on the Kennedy Center site:

This is terrible news. He’s been such an important part of the music for so long yet somehow, with his youthful energy, still seemed so young that this comes as a great surprise to me. RIP, Johnny.

I am shocked and saddened. Is this the brother of Phil Cunningham, and a member of Silly Wizard?
Best.

The very same.
