Death of Martyn Bennett 2005

Not a regular contributer to the forum but I really felt a need to post this here.

One of my all time favorite Scottish musicians and low whistle players died on January-30th-2005. Maybe you have heard his music? Not trad at all but his whistleing was truly breathtaking! Martyn has inspired myself and others by means of his music for many years. I learned an aweful lot from listening to him play his low whistles. A truly gifted player and far ahead of his time to say that least. Excellent Piper as well. He took the old and the new and brought them together for a truly unique sound.

I really had no idea that Martyn had passed away. I went looking for his web site today and found out that he had already died. If there are any other players out there knowing the family of Martyn please except my deepest sympathy. It is really hard losing such a great player such as Martyn Bennett.

This low whistle player was so innovative that I Could not stop listening to his playing. A few years after I started the Low Whistles I heard him play. Incredible stuff. Martyn will be sorely missed.

Martyn does have several CD’s. My all time favorite is, " Bothy Culture".

P.S. W/out mentioning any players names on the board, Martyn has inspired some great low whistlers out there in the circuit.

Thanks for listening.

Hi Tal!

I am always saddened to see the loss of anyone who contributes to life. It seems that we are often reminded of how tenuous our time is, and that of all the gifts we are given, talent, interest, skill, and the like, the most important one, life, is almost always too short a time to share them fully. May his soul fly free and his gifts to those left behind endure.

Its the legacy of anyone who composes or plays music, if their effort inspires others, and the music in some way carrys forward, then the individual is for all intents and purposes -immortal,
All the fine musicians who created the music we play, whether we know their name or not, live on..and on…and on.
Tis sad when any soul passes onto the next life,
It is refreshing to know though a part of them stays alive.
regards
David
