But my French desk-calendar informs me that today is the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola .
So let’s hear it for the Jesuits, once the Vatican’s Delta Force. Not always uncontroversial, but a seriously dedicated bunch of thinking heads who expanded many minds (including what’s left of mine). (I could add that I’d be happier if the present CEO in Rome paid more attention to what they have to say and less to that other, more recent upstart Spanish outfit , but we don’t want to turn this into a theological rumble thread, now do we? ).
BTW, even Séamus Ennis had a year in Belvedere, so that brings us almost back on topic.
And while its entirely non-germane, I’m adding a “happy birthday” to my little sister. Not that she’s anyone important but heck, surviving fifty-five years of complete lack of direction without major traumas has to count for something…
Thanks for all the best wishes. I think it’s awfully kind of Roger to describe me in these glowing terms, and for Bloo to bake me an admittedly dreadful-looking cake (it’s the thought that counts, right?). Doing my best to have a good day!
