O'Riordan whistle set for sale.

O’Riordan C/D set in Kingwood in tie bag, made in summer 2002,in mint condition for sale.Email offers and this wonderful set goes to the highest bidder in a day or 2.Thanks.

Can you tell us a bit more about them, like how they sound…?

They sound pure and sweet with a wonderful round tone and a delight to play in the upper register.Genuine reason for the sale;and as things go very difficult to replace. It will make someone very happy!

Genuine reason for the sale;

What is, Château Petrus ?

If I had not just bought a new flute two days ago, I would surely try to get those O’Riordans. But my husband as well as my daughters would kill me if I did. :frowning:
The O’Riordan would be a fine replacement for the Rose that I can’t play anymore due to a blackwood allergy.

A Blackwood allergy??? As in…you like break out in hives or get a stuffy nose & itchy/watery eyes if you play an instrument made of blackwood???

I get swollen lips, red spots on the chin and an itchy tongue when I play my blackwood flute. The allergy doesn’t affect my fingers yet.

PETRUS,

I sent you a private message.

Thanks.

Joey

Despite what you might think from reading the stuff about cocus . . . blackwood allergy is not uncommon at all. Cocus is more allergenic, sure, but blackwood allergies can be bad as well.

Stuart

Flute allergies are a bitch to deal with, due to the large surface area touching one’s face and lips, however a whistle like the rose shouldn’t cause a problem: Even though I’m allergic to my Cocus Olwell, I played a Beautiful Cocus Thin Weasel for years with no problems, because the area touching the lips is tiny. That small contact area on the Rose could easily be lacqured or covered with nail polish, then you should have no trouble with it…

Loren

There are a number of sample sounds on the Clips site and these whistles are extremely consistent between copies. The wood does sound slightly different from the metal.

For those who don’t win that sale, I’m not kidding, Gary Humphrey is starting a line of whistles that sound a heck of a lot like an O’Riordan. There is a recent post of his whistle on Clips as well. (Gary, make them wait 2 and a half years for one and they’ll appreciate it more.)
Tony

Hats off to gary they sound great and to Tony well spotted the likeness is uncanny.Another great whistle maker has begun.Anyway I’m trying to sell about the O’Riordans !!!

Loren LOREN! You never mentioned that before! That’s probably the reason for your marked allergy to the Olwell. That area of contact is certainly enough to sensitize you. Your body had years to build up a nice, brisk response to cocus allergens.

I hope things are going better with the flute, BTW.

Claudine - that’s tragic, such a beautiful whistle not to be played. Get in touch with Fred, he may have some ideas on how to overcome it.

Petrus, I would be interested to know how much the whistles sold for…

The whistle set is spoken for.Thank-you for your interest and a Merry Christmas.

Highest bidderpulled out so its still up for grabs.

What, and suffer the slings and arrows of Phil O., and the others who think it’s a crime to sell a whistle for significantly more than it cost new?

Loren

Loren - Those were not my arrows, merely barbs. Hope your move went ok. Stop picking on old Jewish retired men. I guess I was too pissy to give a complete answer that day. I understand that things will be sold for what the market bears and that’s fine; it’s just not my preference, esp. on this Board. I’ve sold quite a few whistles here at what I believe and have no reason to doubt were very fair prices. I’ve also been sold some very desirable whistles at what I consider more than fair prices too. I’ve given some whistles for free and gotten some too. I hope that no matter how much the community here grows it will retain some sense of warmth, comeraderie, and fair-play.

I guess I got a little peaked with you because you’re usually the guardian who draws attention to possibly suspect posts and activities, with varying results. I’ve always respected your perception, judgments and vigilance. However, in this instance, when someone drew attention to the sort of thing you yourself have pointed out in the past (a first-time poster selling whistles, e.g.), you went off on that individual. It’s not a matter of ultimately being right or wrong (I believe this poster has made other posts and is legitimate as was serpent when he first came aboard), just being fair and consistent.

In any event, I do not mean to try to censor or intimidate with respect to selling whistles at any prices, as we can all make our own judgments. It’s just that I felt you were being inconsistent on this one when you came down on another vigilant Boarder.

I have always appreciated our interplay and hope that will continue. Be well.

Regards,

Philo
