I have a flute in the Rudall & Rose style stamped George & Mamby , Fleet Street , London on the headjoint , Barrel, third joint & footjoint . Very good it is too .It has never occured to me that it has anything to do with Rudall & Rose .Has anybody ever heard of a connection ? Sounds iffy to me . A marriage ?
PS. The advert says " 3 peter plugs" but the footjoint only has 2 .
Very unrudally if it has a body bewter plug ,(which I can’t see ).
Bad enough when you mistype pewter wrongly once !
Yeah, I dunno about yours, but my peter plugs never stay in for long ![]()
Just a note that I’ve dealt with the seller, who’s a reputable flute repair person in New York. I bought a 5-key German blackwood flute that was already overhauled and was very pleased.

I am laughing out loud at this one! ![]()
My goodness, that seller has some AMAZING instruments!!!
This looks close to Terry McGee’s Rudall Refined model.
Has anyone played a similar flute?

Can one of you wonderful people tell me how a reputable flute repairer can think that the music publishers George & Manby were ever retailing
Rudal & Rose flutes and stamping them .The seller seems unwilling to give details of the purported Rudall & Rose stamping ( Number , which joints )and seems unwilling so far to say where he gets the idea from .
I fear that some poor gullible American is in danger of coming unstuck to the tune of thousands of dollars.

“He” is a she (Susan Eberenz). Here is a link to her information page on ebay.

I emailed and asked for more information on the authentication, and on what is stamped on which joints. I also asked about the 3 pewter plugs, and suggested that more of this information should be added to the ebay listing.

I applied for details myself but had no reply .
I trust that anybody believing that it is a Rudall & Rose flute should demand a certificate of authenticity before parting with cash .It is too soon to consider whether it could be a marriage , as it is still being marketed as genuine . I have yet to see other retailer’s stamped goods being passed off as Rudall & Rose .False Rudall stamps are a different matter .
I’ve conversed with susan extensively on this flute over the past several months/weeks. I have additional photos and have logged ONLY the upper joint (many Rudalls were parted from their bodies over the years) at serial #2108 on the catalogue as a true rudall part.
While this indeed looks very Rudally, I am not aware of any RR flute that was stamped by a dealer and not the makers on every joint.
I suspect the heart piece (of which is stamped Rudall) was melded to the body parts of the G&M (of whom I cannot find any instrument dealer listing, although this is not that unusual, yet disconcerting).
Sue didn’t know of my website research catalogue, but appreciates it now, of course.
She has been very sweet during all our conversations.
But, I’ve had no success finding from her the basis of her assertion that G&M routinely sold Rudall flutes with their own stamp. That, based on what I know, is not a fact at all.
So…for whatever it’s worth for the rest of you. I even suggested she drop the price to a routine $1,000 or so since only real, entire Rudalls can expect to see the price she’s asking.
My guess is Sue merely was uninformed about what she really had and marketed on her own suppositions, despite the error.
You will find George & Manby on the net as a music publisher .Like a good few others they stamped what instruments they bought in with their own names , but not , of course Rudalls. There seem to have been plenty of people making Rudall like flutes around 1835 in London . You must be careful not to buy these old Rudalloid flutes with new Rudall - like brands . I believe I have seen the names G & M over the years in the catalogues .If except for Mr Migoya you are all so credulous I should sell my George & Manby as a Rudall .Who needs Rudall brands over there ?
( but I shan’t )
Indeed Andrew
and like Mr. Levine in another post, I too have a bridge worth selling!
Something eslse, that I find very pretty:

The instrument is still listed on ebay at the same price and with the same description. Obviously, the readers of C&F have been duly warned, thanks to Andrew and Mr. Migoya. I would have thought that the questions to the seller from myself and Andrew would have raised some red flags, especially following the communication reported by Dave Migoya. I am wondering where one’s civic duty ends, and if anything more could or should be done. Any thoughts?

After Mr Migoya’s warnings to the vendor the misselling attempt is clearly not innocent .
A complaint to E bay sholuld be made and someone ( I hope Mr Migoya with his introduction ) should tell the vendors that any sale as a Rudall will be interpreted as fraud . Perhaps the police could be warned of what is going on .
I trust that any purchaser will be offered support in any action to reverse the sale .
I have advised the vendor that I am reporting the attempted fraud to the Internet Fraud Complaint Centre , Ebay and the NY police .Does anybody have the number of the NYPD . They seem to function well on the films when they are not eating .
E Bay I find very obstructive .
The IFCC computer system is crazy .
