Olympic Penninsula, WA: Musicians or Teachers?

If you saw my “country or city” post you already know that my wife and I can no longer afford to live in Seattle, and will be looking for a new home soon. We need to stay in the general area, somewhere between Federal Way (south) and Everett/Mulkiteo (north), over across the Puget Sound in the central Kitsap county area (Silverdale, Bremerton) or Port Orchard.

Anyway, the quick of it is I am curious if anyone on the board knows of any musicians or teachers in the area over in Kitsap county? My wife has just started fiddle lessons over here, and I would hate to move to an area where there is not a good Fiddle teacher for her (whistle for me), at least to continue establishing a solid foundation for her. Plus, since we have some flexibility in where we choose to move, it would be nice to find a small town/community where we could meet up with folk/trad/etc musicians, and enjoy some fellowship and growth in music.

The Olympic Peninsula is going to be a trad wasteland. You might come across some folk musicians. If there are any musicians or teachers in that area, two people who would know are:

Casey Burns in Kingston

and Ron Konzak on Bainbridge Island

I have talked to Casey, but not Ron. Thanks Teri. I hope to hear something more promising

Maybe it won’t be a wasteland as our numbers grow. I’m in Suqaumish which is in North Kitsap, next to Poulsbo. I play whistle and flute. I’ve been hoping to get a session going over here. There’s a very small one that meets once a month. There a few up in Port Townsend, which is a 45 min drive from North Kitsap.

The Sunday Fado session in Seattle is very easy to walk to from the ferry and the ferry fare is cheap if you walk on. I have a friend on Bainbridge who lives near the ferry dock so, I have a place to park for free.

I recognize where you are. Great! I don’t know how far off I am from being able to join in on even a beginning session, but it’s certainly something I am looking forward to. I’ll let you know if we find ourselves on your side of the pond. I know we are planning on taking MLK (this Monday) off of work and taking a day trip to the Kitsap area, drive around, and get a better feel of different areas. Should be fun. We’re looking forward to it

ps. btw, have you always lived where you are? I had a post here about “do you prefer country or city?”

Matt,

check your pm.

I don’t see anything?

That’s wierd. I did write it, did I send it? If not, I send another. Sorry about that.

Hey, that’s happened to me once or twice, or three times, no wait, I think about five times

Still nothing, hmmmmm. Feel free to email me.

I have to step away from the computer for a bit, but I’ll email you soon

Matt- If you come up dryer than hoped on the Kitsap music scene - ferry back to good ol’ Colman Dock in Seattle and ride Metro to music venues. Here’s the Metro trip planner link:

-This just in: Private foot ferry service between Pier 55 in Seattle and Kingston begins Tuesday 1/18, so you will soon have another option in addition to the state boats from the Kitsap peninsula. -$5.25 each way-
