Hi everyone,
I’m flying up to visit my parents in Washington State, does anyone know of any happenings up there? I found the Folk Life festival Memorial weekend, sound like a blast! Anyone going?

Though I no longer live in the Evergreen State, I’ve gone many times to the Folk Life Festival and highly recommend it! I especially enjoyed checking out the musical instrument vendors - the Lark in the Morning booth alone was worth the pushing through thousands of “tourists” (I was a regular, not a tourist!). Now they have a permanent shop in the Pike Place Market.
There was at least one celtic music stage there that I spent most of the day at. Anyway, if you’re in coffee-swilling capital of the northwest on Memorial Day weekend, you shouldn’t miss Folk Life!

FolkLife is a must if you’re in Seattle that week-end. Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill will be there this year. There is a stage devoted primarily to Irish Trad performances… it’s located directly across from the beer tent.

-Folklife Parking can be awful ,…so take - Metro bus #15 or #18
northbound on First Avenue from downtown, or catch a Folklife Shuttle bus
from Metro also running up First Avenue.
These take riders up along the West side of the center near Key Arena, or catch buses
#3, 4 or 16 on Third Avenue downtown for service to the East side of the center. - Lotsa Metro service to Folklife!

Thanks for posting the info Brian. Parking can be a problem. The Monorail (sorry for mentioning the competition) is an option for those downtown wanting to head to the Festival. We always headed in very early to find parking, but for the past two years I’ve been working on the corner of 5th & Denny and the boss is married to the owner of Fat City, so parking isn’t a problem anymore.

Sorry I haven’t got back to you all, but I have been playing tthe tourist up here, today i went to Washingtons version of “Stonehenge”! It is located next to the Columbia river, brought back memories…
The folk Life Festival will be a blast!
I think I will take the monorail there.
