It is indeed sad when someone sees no way out of his pain than suicide. I know from personal experience because I have been at that point a number of times in my adult life. Luckily I had a very supportive family and I finally found a physician who diagnosed my condition correctly and worked with me to find a combination of medications that were right for me. I feel it is important to urge people not to consider major depression and bipolar disorder (which I have) as symptoms of moral weakness or as a charachter flaw. It is a complex physical disease that has as high a mortality rate as many other chronic illnesses. It’s not a matter of looking on the bright side or praying more or reading the scriptures or just pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. Over the years I was given all this advice, in these words, from well-meaning clergy, friends and physicians.
Sorry for preaching but I feel a bit of responsibility for other misunderstood people suffering with these illnesses.

No need to apologize, you make a very good point. So many people with illnesses are being given poor advice by possibly well-meaning individuals, and are not receiving the help they need.
