I live in Holyoke right near Northampton and Look park would be a great spot you might have to rent a pavillion there though, but there are probably plenty of places just to gather in the park. The Mt. Tom Reservation in Holyoke is a great spot with tables and small grills, but hard to navigate around if you don’t know the area. I used to attend a session in Northampton at the Bishop’s lounge every week, the restaurant has moved and so has the session with it but they might let you gather. I know several bar and restaurants in the Holyoke area, but its a rougher city than northampton, there’s the John Boyle O’Reilly club in Springfield but again it may cost money to have it there.
I would love to be there, I’m sure my friend and bandmate would also come, He’s a great whistler. Let us know when, Patrick Dunn
Patrick,
they’re back at Bishops now, after an unpleasant spell at other venues. I never make it down on Thursday nights anymore, too bad.
I’ll look into Look Park, see what would be involved in reserving a spot there. It has the great advantage of being easy to find and easy to reach off the highway. Can you think of an indoor venue in Northhampton or vicinity that would be suitable for a gathering of several whistlers on a Sunday afternoon?
All: I think Sunday afternoon will be the best option for a gathering. Any comments, any first suggestions for a date?
Ok, enough: We’d better stop acting like we don’t hate each other, we’re gonna confuse the hell out of people. Heaven forbid we both show up at this thing and have a couple of tunes together, somebody is bound to croak, and I don’t want that on my concience.
Works for me! I just need plenty of lead time to plan since summer is mucho busy. I know for a fact that I will be in Michigan the last weekend in June for a wedding. Other than that, the rest of the summer’s Sundays are still open for us.
Bloom,
There are several great restaurants in the area, I don’t know who would be willing There’s the Moaning Dove a bar in Amherst where we used to have a session years ago. There’s the Northampton Brewery which has a nice deck and great food. Most places in Northampton tend to be small or expensive. In my experience setting up sessions a lot of people don’t seem to understand the concept until they see it. The Harp in Amherst has a good session on Fridays (I think) so they may be willing to let us meet on a Sunday afternoon. Look park would be ideal if its nice out. I will be moving back to Holyoke from Oneonta NY in the next three weeks so after that I’d be willing to go talk to some places. Take Care
Patrick
Told my wife about this meetup, and she loves the idea. She suggests a very early afternoon, or even late morning since a lot of people will have to travel considerable distances home afterwards.
Why not all meet at the Irish Arts Festival in East Durham NY in July? Kickoff the “Dale For President” write in campaign… As an alternate venue - the Democratic Convention in Boston - We all could busk in front of the Fleet Center and get arrested and get our 15 seconds on CNN…
