“CLEMENTL” ?
![]()
What would this be like acoustically?
very old pitch
i have one just like it in stained (ugh) boxwood.
it’s CLEMENTI but the “I” cross on top didn’t make the round.
these are, I think, the very early Clementi flutes that were the ones before the Nicholson models appeared.
Very nice sound, but likely in the 415-432 range of A.
chances are unlikely this flute will be full-range 440. Mine is nnot and is quite close to 432, but many of the fork fingerings are needed for it to work.
these flutes, too, were pre-tuning slide, which makes them likely at the c.1810 or earlier time. Key design and cut were important to tell.
the keys use leather flaps, which the interior of leather work gloves work well. You can get the leather in crafty shops, too, for not much money.
nice flute, too. no ivory cracks that I see and seems to be straight with no warping of the bore, either (the bore circle “O” will tend to look like “0” instead.)
What do you mean, by Acoustically? Hard to say how it would sound, probably a mellow tone, tuned for 420htz.
