Newest Family Member: Now Playing

I’d like to announce the birth of a bouncing baby B set. It’s a full set in ebony with nickel silver metalwork and mammoth ivory trim. The bellows cheeks are spalted elm. Made by Geoff Wooff.

I haven’t had the chance to play it yet, but I’ll be home in two days (TX). Various and sundry reasons prevented my pilgrimage to take the pipes in person . . . but looks like they arrived safe and sound. My dad took some pics, and I think these show the set well. First: everything as it was packed up.

Geoff’s also making the bellows with the shiny-side of the leather facing inwards . . .

This second one he took to show the nice variation in the bigger chunks of ivory. Cool chair, no?

I’ll have to get some good shots of them put together when I get there. After I play them, of course!

Stuart

WOW, Nice pics Stuart!

That really is a cool and comfortable looking armchair
Lucky you!

Awesome!
May you receive years of enjoyment playing them.

Congratulations, Stu. They will have been worth the considerable wait and the expense.

Thanks one and all.

As for time, for those who are curious: I got on the waiting list seven years ago. I changed my order about two years into it from C# to B, a decision I have NOT regretted! Then, a year or so after that, I changed from boxwood to mammoth ivory.

I’ll tell a funny story about the second picture. My dad is quite musical, but he’s a brass instrument player, and while he likes the pipes, he has no idea how to play them.

He actually took the second shot to say, “You know, it looks like one of the drones doesn’t have a hole for the air to get out.”

I explained that it was a reg cap, and that it shouldn’t have a hole. He’s happy now.

Gee, what a nice chair. I wish I could have a chair like that. Do you think you’ll be bringing the chair back to TO? Will Canada Customs let you in with a chair like that? It sort of fits the Middle-Eastern profile, yuh know? If you had to wait seven years, I wonder what the waiting list is like for these chairs now?

P.S. Looks like we just might have to have a Killer B session at Chris Langan’s in January. I should at least have a B half-set from Joe Kennedy by then. Congrats on a beautiful set, by the way.

jeeeeeeeeeeeezus…

woah.

Fantastic looking set, man! Thanks for posting the photos!

I was waiting for D’Arcy to say it, but I can’t resist:

Stuart, don’t forget to link your picture with the ‘pictures of your pipes’ thread.

Should I put up the disassembled pic, or wait until I can get a full-on shot?

Stuart

Fully assembled with chair intact.

Congratulations. I’m sure the set will bring much pleasure.

Is that an artifact of the photo taking or:

  1. is the bass drone turn crimped or more narrow at the turn

  2. are the bass reg keys really at differing elevations?

Holy smokes, Stuart! That’s awesome. Congratulations.
Hopefully you’ll post a soundclip soon of the B buzzing.

BBBBBBBBB… oh too late  A hearty congratulations Stu!
Can’t wait to make first hand comparisons at some stage.
I love the top photo… you can still see the print of the bubble
wrap on the stock… I LOVE IT! TRemember the smell aswell…
there’s nothing like it!

Up yer B!

Patrick.

I can’t answer until I’ve seen them in person. Patience, grasshopper!

Stuart

Mmmm, new pipe smell.

And the bubble wrap! Whoo-hoo!

Stuart

Congratulations sturob. You still headed to West Texas? You bringing pipes?

somebody should bottle it. It’s wonderful. Much better than new car smell.

NO! The job I was going there to do evaporated.

So I’m having an East Texas Christmas!

Mmmmm . . . fried turkey!

Stuart

I thought you were coming for the music and the job was some kind of side deal. Question: Is there anything they don’t put in dressing over there?
