new whistle

Well I will be honest here, a few of you had told me to get a second whistle and I honestly thought why? Waste of money a whistle is a whistle surely? Well I am glad I listened to you all my Clarke arrived today so I straight away whipped that baby out, I also whipped the whistle out. I now know what you all meant both my whistles are d but they definitely have a distinct sound to them and I found the Clarke just a bit easier to consistently hit the 2nd octave. I am still only concentrating on a couple of songs Scarborough fair and Danny boy and I have had a toot at whisky in the jar so I will add that one to my list but you all have unlocked a beast. I WANT MORE!!! lol

Bellowsface,
You have just turned down the WOAD to “whistle madness”! Turn back Lad, before it’s too late. :boggle: :boggle: :boggle:

Cayden

Just wait until I can play too. I will have loads in a Mexican bandolier across my chest lol. I’m watching a low d on e bay now. The only thing stopping me bidding is the wife would batter me

I’ve only been playing a week or so but I can tell a difference between my Clarke Sweetone and my Generation (different keys but still). The Generation is a lot more pure and the Clarke is a lot more fuzzy and breathy.

I can see a long and interesting road of discovery opening up before you…

You consider the Sweetone fuzzy and breathy? Then get yourself a Clarke Original!

My Clarke is the original. It takes a bit less breath than my feadog. I like the difference between them it’s great

Hhhmmmm?

You sure It is the Clarke’s Original Tinwhistle? And it uses less breath than a Feadog???

I’m confused. Is today opposites day?

Feadoggie

To me yep that is my gut feeling when I played them. I only played the same few tunes on both of them I haven’t got a wide range of tunes to play due to the short time I’ve been playing. My Clarke is the black one with the diamonds on it and it was the original that I ordered.

OK. That’s cool. The reason some of us are scratching our heads is that the Clarke Original is usually viewed as a lung buster by many novice players (and veterans as well).

Many a novice player posts here asking how to reduce the air requirements of the Clarke and there are several customary methods to accomplish just that. I’m glad your happy with it.

Put the Feadog in a drawer and play the Clarke for a few weeks. Then go back to the Feadog and tell us what you think.

Feadoggie

You were right. Today I played the Clarke for the first hour and when I swapped over to the feadog I was in fact blowing too hard so from that I am pleading beginners ignorance and putting my previous statement down to shock for playing something right. And tonight my wife recognised two of the things I was playing so improvements are being made. Whoo hoo.

Yes, I felt the shift in the force. All is right with the world now.

Have fun.
