New Oklahoma Whistle Egroup

I have started a new egroup for whistle players in Oklahoma and surrounding states. This is the description:

This group is for those interested in the tin whistle, pennywhistle, irish whistle, fipple flute or whatever you want to call it. Mainly for those of us that want to keep in touch about things that are going on in the Oklahoma area, including Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Northern Texas. Also, for anyone that might have relatives or other business in Oklahoma and might be interested in knowing what is going on locally as far as seisiuns or concerts, fairs and festivals are concerned. Pennywhistles are the main focus here, but not exclusively.

We have a lot coming up, at least here in Tulsa, so if anyone is interested, please sign up! Go here:

When a whistler plays, he stirs up the air and makes it hit any passing eardrums. But if he is good, he knows how to keep it from hurting.

Fantastic! I got to thinking that so much is coming up in this area, and I’ll bet there’s frequently things going on in OKC that we need to all be aware of. And I occassionally get PMs from people that are passing through this great state of ours. I thought this might be a way to help.

Did you sign up with the egroup? I mentioned Arkansas with you in mind!

K

My grandma was born in Oklahoma territory (she even taught me some Indian). My mom was born in Tulsa. My nephew was in the musical, “Oklahoma”. Is it OK for me to join, even though I live in California, and have never lived in Oklahoma? I went their once, when I was a kid. . .

Thanks a bundle, Kim! I’m signed in, and even left a picture and a couple of links (this site and CTL). I’ll contribute more pix and links as they become available.

My grandfather was from Oklahoma – Kingfisher, born in Council Grove Kansas. Great-grandfather move there in 1880’s after being a state senator for Kansas after the Civil War, setting up a law office there.

I visited my great aunt in Kingfisher in 1966 and again 1982 and met more family than I thought I had. So there is a kind, warm affection for the Great State of Oaklahoma.

It sure is! Maybe it will convince you to visit here!

MarkB…I am a Texan, but I came here to visit my 2nd cousin once removed and just fell in love with the area and the people. The housing market is reasonable, we were able to get a small but nice house on a quarter acre for 69K.

My great-great-great-great (I forget how many greats) grandparents are listed in the 1850’s census rolls as living in the next town over from where I live.

Well, our egroup has just taken off, with 11 members now. So far it has been a wealth of information!

Bumping this to the top, for anyone who might have missed it.

Oh no! It’s Barney the purple dinosaur!!!

What? I thought purple pictures in the sig line was the “in” thing??

Good thing Dale will never check out this thread…he’ll never know I’m razzing him.

Psst . . . Kim . . . !

Got me a purple square too!

I think I’ll bump this to the top, see if there are any newbies out there that might want to know about this…
