I hadn’t realized it while cruising through the web, but Uilleann pipemaker Andreas Rogge also makes flutes. Probably pretty nice ones, since the guy is a fanatic for detail.

Maybe someone else knows more about this, but for years Rogge has listed Thomas Aebi’s flutes in his catalog. These flutes are either Aebi’s or they’re Rogge’s; you’ll note that there’s ZERO information on them on Rogge’s pages.

I do not know much about Andreas’s flute making business. I have only heard that the “simple” flutes he offers are “improved” pakistani flutes. I heard proficient flute players say good things about them (only hearsay, mind you).

Wow, for 1555 Euros and up, I would hope that’s his own work and not just an improved Pakistani flute! If I had that kind of money to spend on a flute, I’d just get on Patrick Olwell’s list. Then I’d be able to spend the other $300+ on more whistles!

Steven,
that’s a misunderstanding. The keyed flutes he offers are completely his own work, as I understand it. Besides these, he also offers a “basic flute” for 410 Euros. Those flutes are “Irish flutes” as well, but, as I said, supposedly the “improved” Pakistanis. Sorry, if I didn’t make this clear enough.

I know for a while one Uilleann maker was offering improved Paki pipes, maybe this was what you were thinking of?
Now that you mention it, he also offers a Tinwhistle in B, of all keys. That’s a poser…
