new flutemaker on the block

I received an email from Seth Gallagher that he is officially offering flutes for sale. A keyless in blackwood is “around $1025”. I’ve also seen a fully keyed one on his webpage and they’re beautiful. Seth has a fantastic reputation as an uilleann pipe maker and he apprenticed at the Von Heume woodwind workshop, so he knows what he’s doing. You can see one of his flutes at

Sorry, Dave, the link didn’t work for me. I tried the homepage and didn’t see any flute listings…wassup?

Best,

Try that… I just used it and got the flute pictures. He doesn’t have an “official” flute part to the website yet…he’s working on it. I got the price, etc. from emailing him.

Very nice! I like that additional Bb lever, especially. Dadgummit, Dave, I’m trying to put a halt to my flute-buying. You’re not helping, you know.

Thanks for clarifying the link.

Seth had a few flutes with him at the Uilleann Pipe workshop Feb 16. I heard Jerry O’Sullivan playing one it sounded great.
Jerry say as soon as he sells a few “toys” he will get one of Seth’s Flutes for himself.
No he did not say what “toys”.

The confusion will flow for sure once John Gallagher, no relation to Seth, announces he’s making flutes for all.
I’ve played one of his prototype Pratten models. Very nice.
Not sure when he’s officially announcing, but I’d expect sometime this year.

While most people know Seth for making pipes, the interesting thing is that his instrument making pedigree is rooted in flutes. He apprenticed at the von Huene Early Music Workshop for many years.

Not too shabby.

I know Jerry O’Sullivan has sold a Seery Pratten in D, already. What’s up next, eh?
