New flute arrived!

Well, it arrived yesterday! New, polymer flute from Michael Cronnoly (M & E), in the Rose/Rudall style.

Very nice to play, even for a rank beginner such as myself. Good low tones, enough volume that I will be able to be heard in our session, and a manageable reach. (I have smaller hands.)

I practiced until my embouchure gave out yesterday, when I feel comfortable with it I’ll give more impressions, and (GASP!) maybe post a clip.

Congratulations on your new flute! I’ve been really impressed with the M&E R&R clips I’ve heard, and I think it’s a nice looking flute, too. Did you go the whole nine yards and get the silver rings, too?

There are few things more lovely than a new flute and the hours spent getting to know each other…although my wife does have a slightly haunted look since I’m playing my new Dixon just about every waking moment that I’m not at work!

Hi Aodhan, theres nothing better than FINALLY getting a new instrument through the post! How long did you have to wait? The Cronolly R.& R. certainly looks the business(did you get the bands?)and from what I’ve heard ,and read so far, sounds as good as it looks.Post us a clip! Enjoy your fluting!

R&R style poly, tuning slide, silver bands, yep, got it all.

I had to wait a total of 13 days, although I think a bit of that was the postal holiday for President’s day. (It was in the box on Tuesday.)

I’ve been really lazy about developing my embouchure with my concert flute, guess I’ll really have to start working it over (Along with breath control) to tighten it up. I can make 8 bars EASILY on a high D whistles, I can BARELY make it on the flute!

It’s a really nice looking flute, although the headpiece isn’t quite aligned straight with the rest of the flute. Not sure if this is a quirk of handmade, or a mistake. When I get over the fascination, maybe I’ll drop Michael a line.

And, when I get it a bit more under control (Down, flute! Whoah!) I’ll think about possibly maybe dunnoifIshould post a clip…like I said, I am a rank (6 month) beginner on whistle/flute.

Hmm…Maybe fields of athenry or down by the sally gardens…we’ll have to see.

thirteen days wait(!)-not bad at all! I hope your flute is o.k.-I was a little concerned when you said that the head was slightly misaligned.I’m sure that mr. C. will sort things out to your satisfaction,if necessary.
