I am pleased to announce the release of my band’s third CD, entitled ‘Words and Whistles’. The music is comprised of tunes, medleys, and songs - ranging from the Scots-Irish/British Isles and Shaker traditions, to modern Celtic and folk music from individuals such as Dougie MacLean, Bob McQuillen, Sam Rizzetta, and Steve Schneider. The five-piece band includes twin hammer dulcimers, whistles in many keys, violin, six and twelve string guitars, bass, and vocals.
Whistles played by my 17-year old partner and I were built for us by Mike Burke, Mack Hoover, and Dave Parkhurst. Dulcimers are a Rizzetta Extended Range, and Dusty Strings D550 and D600 models.
Please visit www.cdbaby.com/cd/gladlyplaye3 to listen to clips of the music, courtesy of CD Baby. CD copies are available from CD Baby, through the band’s web site, or through me, personally.
Simply e-mail me, off board.

I find the music on the CD relaxing. I think it’s a good CD to have on when doing something around the house. It’s mostly instrumental, and not too fast (but it has some speed in certain places), mostly slow and quietish (which I like). The mastery of the dulcimers is clear. The whistles, though not as prevalent as the dulcimers, sound very good, too. I really like the piece that features whistle harmony, though it is a little reminiscent of a recorder consort (but not in a bad way!). The choice of pieces is good, some interesting tunes and songs, but played and sung in a much more mellow and relaxed way than I have heard (or sung) previously. The singer has a beautiful voice, and/but he sounds a bit as if he is putting himself to sleep as he sings. His melodic lines tend to be slightly different, too, from the ones I have heard and learned, but not all of them. That’s part of the tradition…to make each tune or song our own. I think my baby will enjoy this CD when she is born.
