I think the tunes are Eimhin’s and Cahir’s Kitchen from the playing of Paddy Keenan on the Long Grazing Acre recording.
I’ve been wrong before, however.
I tried it again this morning, and it downloaded fine. Dunno what was wrong last night,
Yes, it’s Julia Delaney, but played wrong. Sounds like someone who once heard a trad musician playing it and has misremembered it. The second part in particular is missing some of the tune, ending up with a very repetitive version as a result.
Julia Delaney as most people know it these days was one of Tommy Potts’ re-imaginings of existing tunes. The ‘original’ as it appears in O’Neill’s collection is a pretty straightforward reel in D, still played today under various names. Not sure what a ‘proper’ version would be. The Bothy Band one is the standard version for most people I suppose.
I was given a lovely version of the tune by Martin Rochford, perhaps a remnant of Potts’ visits to East Clare. It is clearly influenced by Potts’ version but it has a different turn to it that makes it an attractive alternative.
Can someone tell me these two tunes…the fist one is mentioned but I am not sure exactly he is saying (I’m hearing “two on this condition”?) nor did a search turn up anything for me (2:50 in):
