Suggestions anyone? I’m looking for something cool to play and I’m too lazy to dig through upteen tunes to find it. The last time someone suggested something cool, it was for O’Carolan’s Concerto, which was really cool. The last really cool thing I found on my own was The Derry Hornpipe and The Clumsy Lover, if that sorta tells you what kind of tunes I’m looking for.
So if anyone has any “Wow this is cool you have to try this!” tunes I’d appreciat it if you’d share.
And yes, I’ve listened to the latest ones on Clips and Snips. And checked Mick’s Virtual Whistle.
I like fast stuff that jumps around, in octaves and all arpegiated and stuff.
Come on. I see people lookin at the topic.
Don’t be a chicken.
How about Brenda Stubbert’s?

Puk Puk. Puk puk puk! Picack!!
(flogging arms like a chicken)
Puk puk puk!
Hey I know how to spell a rooster sound too.
Er uh-er uherrrr!
Thanks I’m looking.
I heard one called the Postman’s Knock in Donegal and have been kicking myself ever since for not having a recording device on me…was a great tune, four parts, but have yet to find it. I’d recognise the A part if I heard it.
Unfortunately I have been hardly playing anything at all lately trying to get ready for the move, but I hope to fix that over the rest of this year!
There’s a jig in O’Neill’s called The Merry Widow that I have been working on. It may be what you are looking for- it jumps an octave after a low E roll and has lots of arpeggios.
You want something cool to play? How about Skating While the Ice Melts, Frost is All Over, and Cooley’s Reel? In that order, of course, since Ice requires a lower temperature than Frost, and Frost, than Cool.
If none of those suit you, Madame Vanoni might.
Thank yous all. Ima now looking them up as we speak.
Ok, can’t find merry widow. Using the trillian.mit.edu ABC tune finder.
Got skating. Had Cooley’s for a while.
Got Frost.
Got a link to The merry widow?
I likes merry widows, myself, hehehehehehe.
Found the postman!

Can’t tell if that is it or not, as I can’t play from music and that midi is awful. It was on a fiddle that I heard it, and he actually plucked two notes in the A part to make a knock. Coolest thing I heard all summer. Stands to mind that it was a polka but I can’t be sure about that.

Many thanks, I head out to yon garage to inspect my finds.
For now.
Expect a BUMP sometime tommorow.
I just downloaded & printed “The Traveller” from trillian after hearing a clip on James People’s site. Nice little tune!

Vomit this is the coolest hornpipe ever, one of my own all time faves.
http://es45.hslc.org/~gormley/tunes/belfasth.htmlx
It is a three part tune with each part played twice, the sheet omits the repeat notation for some strange reason.
Slan,
D.
Yeah, I got that one a while back. Might have been from the same site. Good one. I got a whole bunch of them from www.figertrip.net when I first started too.

Vomit,
If you know how to make this image easier on the eye you will find the first hornpipe worth the challenge. I seem to remember that it is also known as the Vendome Hornpipe. The title on this version refers to a battleship of some form or other.
The scanner is my new toy and I have not figured out how to enlarge and edit images yet.
Slan,

I think I can manage it, yes, thank you very much. I can read it at 25%+ well enough to pick it out.
