Hi Everybody!
I’m one of the Newbies and I have just received my brand new Silkstone PVC Goldring Soprano D whistle in the mail today!
What bliss! This is indeed a wonderful whistle and I can see why Thom Larson recommends it as a great beginners whistle even though it is one of the"High Ends". The tone is wonderful…very sweet and clear. This particular whistle is advertised as being a “bit quieter” than the standard Silkstone PVC. It is…in a lovely way. It will be great for using to play for friends and family…(if I ever get that good). Not a session whistle for sure…but great for someone who just wants to whistle alone and sound great..even when they aren’t very great at all! It has a lilting almost haunting qualtity to the sound. The whistle is very handsome to look at, and the felt pouch with celtic design that comes with it is well made and great looking!
For all the other newbies out there…if your WhOa is pushing you to purchase a higher end whistle…this would be the one. I highly recommend it. I have been using a Dixon soprano D and did not think I could ever find a whistle that would make me as happy. This one does!!!
I m finding it much easier to make the transition from high D to low D. You know, when they are right next to each other in a tune? I have had trouble with that…but this whistle makes it much easier. Just a class act all the way around! Thanks to all you folks who gave this whistle the big thumbs up when I wrote asking about the Silkstone whistles!
Are there any other retail stores that have Silkstones to try? Like on West Coast? Anybody?
Do you have a way of posting a recording of it? I’d love to hear how it sounds, even if you just play a couple of scales.

“It will be great for using to play for friends and family…(if I ever get that good).”
I practice in the evenings out on my front Porch, two of my neighbors moved while I was leaning. Now the remainder actually asks me to play when I miss a few days.
The whistle is multi national and everyone seems to find something in it they like.
There is a danger associated with whistle playing. It is addictive and you will need to spend some time with your family as well as playing the whistle.
