just to let you know that the 25th of December I’ve got a very
nice Phil Bleazey Alto Whistle in G, Mopane Wood !
It has been only 5 days since I got it but I can tell you one thing;
this is a wonderful sweet whistle !
It is so easy to play; easy octave overblown and very well
balanced volume in between the octaves !
And I like the chocolate appearance of the Mopane wood !
If you look for a wooden whislte in G(Alto) I would strongly
recommend Bleazey’s whistles !

I have a Reyburn G Alto coming on Sat or Mon.
My Reyburn collection keeps growing…one day I will get a Low D.

Just a fortnight ago I got a G whistle from Phil Bleazey, I was lucky enough to only live an hour from Phil so visited them at home. (Lovely people BTW).
I called in with the intention of buying a high D and came away with a G as well.
I play mostly English music with a few Scottish and French tunes thrown in so don’t really go for a very Irish trad kind of sound, if that’s a way to discribe it. So when I played the Bleazey G I was really taken by it.
I can’t discribe it’s sound so I’ll try and get a sound clip sorted in a few days comparing it with my narrow bore Goldie.
One thing I will say is warming up is bit longer process than any other whistle I have. It’s very similar to a recorder, you have to warm the head under your shirt for a few minutes before playing and even then it takes a while to clear but once it’s warm it stays warm. Also there’s no point in blowing down the windway like we do with pretty much every other whistle as this only makes it worse.
Anyway, superb craftsmanship, a pleasure to play and a nice amount of back pressure.
I’ll add some more thoughts with the sound clips.

About the warming up, mine doesn’t take
so long, maybe the temperature difference ?!?!
Is your G whistle in Mopane or some other wood ?
BTW, it must be nice to live close to a whistle/flute
maker, and perhaps dangerous as well…
The blackwood G has also a very nice sound !
I’ve been experimenting different playing angles and I must agree
that if I hold the G whistle perpendicularly to my face’s axis it
plays easily and the sound is more clear !
After getting more used to my Bleazey alto G I must
say that if I play it in the standard whistle’s playing
way (more vertically, end blown style) I can control
it more easily and play it also at a lower volume…
Is always interesting to find each whistle’s behavior
and character !
