Tom is a genius instrument maker, amongst the very best out there…both flutes and concert chanters!
I hope he will someday soon come out with great
FLAT
chanter in B in the same way he succeeded with his amazing Bb flute (fat warm and rich sound with incredible short hand stretch ! ![]()
Tom is a genius indeed. I am not an expert about chanters really, but I think this one is incredibly easy to play and I just love its sound. And his flutes… I’m just back from his workshop and I’ve tried out all his models, including his new Rudall-like design, they are just outstanding. I’ll post more later on the appropriate forum.
Don’t know about flat chanters. I don’t think Tom has plans in that direction.
Nice playing there. You also play highland pipes, yes?
T
Highland Pipes? No, never tried them. I’m mainly a flute player, and I play a bit of uilleann pipes and other stuff.
Tom just sent me pics of a chanter he just finished, with 4 keys and boxwood rings:

Not mine…unfortunately, but I shall not complain…
I love how that boxwood(I think it is boxwood) just complements the blackwood. It is very beautiful.
