Looks good. I’m not actually interested, but thought others might be.

I’ve been watching it… I’m watching every old flute I find. Not planning on bidding though. Just interested in prices.

Something bothers me about it though.

Can anyone tell me what I’m seeing through the emb. ? Looks like threads. Has the liner been removed… or backed off to try to bring in into tune?

Or is it something else?

Hey Aanvil,

I presumed the visable threads are from the cork tuning appuratus, perhaps inserted backwards to prevent them from protruding out of the capless top of the head.

I’m very interested by this photo of the embouchure!

Here’s a picture of my Boxwood Mollenhauer’s head:

Same shape, yet these flutes were probably made ~30-40 years apart!

I guess they liked that squarish shape. Though it was common on “Viennese” flutes in the “Romantic Flute Period”.

Somebody bid on it, so I won’t be tempted! :stuck_out_tongue:

All the Best!

This

9 keys (sterling?)

from the auction is a bit disingenuous, don’t you think? Certainly an experienced auctioneer would know that these keys are not sterling silver.
Nice stamp. LP = Low Pitch (A=435).
Mid and late-19th. Century German flutes are pretty much of a muchness. I don’t see what’s so great about it.

I don’t see it as ‘disingenuous’. If the seller doesn’t know whether they are sterling or not, it seems a fairly honest way to state it.

hmmm … age, condition, price, maker, seller’s feedback … If I had spare funds I’d be interested enough to pay $75 … maybe more

I owned a similar Mollenhauer flute. The exact same body but with an oval embouchure. It was a good flute in particular the 2nd a 3rd octave were good and tuning was nice. It was a quality instrument. On mine the keys were made out silverplated cooper and they had the same greenish look when I bought it. I had no problem cleaning it with a gentle silver polish. I can send pictures and a (poor) sound clip of that Mollenhauer I had if interested.

My Meyer (ahem.. for sale now) is a better instrument though.

Jordan, your Mollenhauer is a real beauty. The ivory crown is spectacular!

If only there were a sound clip or two I’d place a bid straightaway. As it is, I’ll… watch this one.

Anybody know any more about the case this flute is in?

It’s nearly identical to the case my Wylde came in - but I’ve never thought it was the original case, and haven’t seem another so similar until this one.

I have one nearly identical as well… with an old, probably German made, flute that was most likely a Sears offering around the turn of the 19th to 20th century, or first decade of 20th. Th lining in mine is a burgundy.

One thing about the Germans they may have not tuned there flutes, but they had nice cases!
