Hi Folks,
Just got a MZR909 and was wondering whats the best way to transfer music between MD and PC. As I understand it to transfer to PC I’ll need to connect from the MD TO PC via line out/headphone socket to line in/mic and record as a Wav file using e.g Cool-edit. I’ve seen products that connect the MD to the PC’s USB (Xitel DG-2 and Edirol UA-1D)I was wondering if anyone had used this method.
Cheers, Mac

Why don’t you load the disc in your CD-Rom drive ? You might need some extra software to read it, but there’s aplenty freeware around (like Quicktime reader).
You’ll save two, analog-to-digital and back to digital, conversions steps.
Same thing back to Mini-Disc : I doubt Easy CD Creator wouldn’t handle this with a PC burner.
Sorry I can’t be more specific, since I primarily use Mac for anything music or images-related, but Crimosoft world has its solutions too.
Mac’s the real McCoy

Sony designed the standard to be CD compatible. And I recently shied away from Minis to burn on me PC (as in generic personal computer) just because they were too expensive (compared to regular CD-R) for a little whistle gadget I’d like to market.
But they’re around, work in the same burners.
Hey just try, it : you can’t possibly jam the reader/burner. Maybe a system crash at worst, but then don’t blame it on me–it’s your unfriendly environment
Don’t do it Mac, he doesn’t understand what you’re talking about - I promise you that square peg will not work in the round hole, if you see what I mean.
Hi Loren,
I thought there was a misunderstanding, I tried it anyway, even took the disc out of the cartridge just to see what would happen. It did’nt jam fortunately. Thanks for the input anyway.
Considering that a minidisk is cartridge based (residing in a square casing of plastic) and a cd is free (no casing at all), it’d seem self-evident that it woudln’t work in a cd player. As Loren said, square peg, round hole.
Mac, as far as I know, and I’ve looked, all of the USB connectors on the portable plays are for recording to the MD only. Mainly this is due to piracy fears and not due to any technical limitation. So, like me, you’re stuck adjusting the headphone level so as to not overdrive the line-in on your pc and recording each track manually.
Annoying, but the MD portables are so convienient for recording sessions that I put up with it.
I’ve been told that some of the decks will support a SPDIF out, but as I’m not in the market to buy a new unit I haven’t looked into it.

Sorry Mac!
I did confude Sony’s Mini Disc and the Mini CD-R used on devices like their Mavicas.
Glad it didn’t jam >
Hi Loren! Long time no see… And thanks for correcting “him” >
Hope your long career as a “Professional Reviewer” wasn’t riddled with such mistakes: One ought to be sure about something before offering advice that could cause damage to another’s property. Perhaps you should spend less time critisizing me for not sticking to the hard evidence, and more time getting YOUR facts strait before you speak.
You can be sure I DID make mistakes, and you just pointed to hard evidence.
Difference is I was–am–always ready to humbly admit them as soon as I can see it, and correct them when possible, with apologies to the readers. I think there’s hard evidence to this, too.
Talkin of which, I’m really glad you’re still around. I feared you missed already some other thread.
Actually, the difference is: I didn’t make any factual mistakes in the review you critisized obliquely, and I have no reason to apologize for any opinions offered.
Loren, don’t take it the wrong way… it was meant to be funny. I thought you might have a laptop with cellular internet connection… yeah, now that’s the ticket!
